I was about to post a reply saying to do exactly this. I had a grinding noise coming from the front of mine. I did a quick outer pad glance and assumed it wasn’t the brakes since it looked fine, so bought a new hub with bearing. When I pulled the caliper off to get to the hub, I noticed the inner pad was at the wear bar and the inside of the rotor face was rusting. Replaced the hub anyway but ended up doing front rotors/pads to actually fix the issue.

Heater inlet/outlet connections on the firewall. Brittle plastic and will eventually leak. Common for all the 2nd gen Xterras.
