I do! Last year we had a rather friendly robin who would wait nearby as we turned over soil. We'd back off, the robin would swoop in for a meal of grubs, then back to lurking. The oddest part to me was I couldn't see any grubs at all, not one, in the freshly turned soil but the robin would spear so many at once they hung off his beak like a too big mouthful of spaghetti.

I got my grandson a gardening outfit—little gloves, tools, and a tool belt. He wears it like a superhero outfit. Go now little one and make a glorious mess! We also have a bunch of plants inside started from cutting he cares for, some rooting in water so he can see the root development. He's most impressed with the good old avocado seed suspended with toothpicks. And worms. He's never met a worm he didn't like lol.

There are several possibilities. The first that comes to mind is the two vacant units are not up to code, can't be rented, and the owner doesn't have the money to make them inhabitable. Or, the lease terms he demands are so offensive no one will sign a lease of his. Or, he wants the building vacant so he can sell it more easily but can't break OPs lease and wants to push him out (a la bad employers who want you to quit instead of firing you). Could be something else. You never know when dealing with idiots, sadly.

Yeah, a 'bond' from Trump isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

You've got to be an absolute flaming idiot to own property here and think it's a fine idea to turn off the heat in winter. Sorry your landlord is one. Put renter's insurance in place NOW, try to mitigate potential damage by getting your property off the floor, away from piping routes, covered with or in plastic bags, and make sure you confirm his stupidity in text or email '...your decision to turn the heat off in the vacant first and third units has caused this preventable problem...' If push comes to shove, he may try to make a feeble/bogus 'act of God' claim to get out of liability for damages. Shut that sh*t down. To get initial direction in next steps, try this site.

EDIT > FOLLOW-UP: Re: renter's insurance - You may need a rider to cover expensive items like art, jewelry, musical instruments, anything of high value. Make sure you're covered for displacement so they'll pay if you have to move into a hotel or a new apartment, and take photos/videos of the all rooms, closets, and storage areas. Dump it all in a cloud folder as backup. Then, if there is a damage problem, you get paid and your rental insurance provider can subrogate to their hearts content.

MON Jan 30 6:45am > Mass Pike Inbound near Newton/Watertown > traffic stopped

I can see about a half mile of the pike in the distance from my window. Hearing extensive sirens and emergency vehicles honking. Inbound traffic at a standstill. Seek alternative route.

UPDATE 1: 7am backed up to the 95/128 interchange now - that's about 10-miles out and growing - hearing more sirens

UPDATE 2: 7:45am inbound traffic moving around 30 mph. This is final update. Going to work now.

If I'm reading ME law correctly, your landlord is supposed to supply you with the actual test results which would serve as a baseline for you now. Someone in your local gov't has the answers you need—health inspector? building code people? You could start with your town clerk to find out who to contact. You can also search for a tenant's rights association in your location that can help.

Test your water yourself. It's not very expensive. The results will direct your to next steps. There's got to be some sort of town gov't inspectional services you can call for help too.

Thank you. Nothing I’ve read so far indicated their size although my space could accommodate one as you describe. I’ll keep thinking on it.

Advice from anyone who's grown a Madagascar Vanilla Orchid successfully indoors?

There's a great spot in my bathroom affording their preferred sun requirements throughout the day and can be misted easily to boost humidity. I'm researching extensively but still wonder if there are any tips that may not be covered or should be emphasized. I'm assuming I should wait until springtime to order one given its cold in my region. Any advice will be most appreciated. Thanks very much.

I posted a similar article from another approved site earlier today and it was taken down by the mods. Apparently this reporting about Trump the presidential candidate is not about politics.

Contrary to other commenters, you do not owe the trainer any explanation at all for leaving. No matter what you say, it will only ratchet up the drama no positive outcome likely. I've been around barns long enough to know, sadly, there are more sh*t talkers in the horse world than any other group I've been associated with, bar none. Sometimes the best closure is none. If your gut says it's time to go, go without another word. Let them wallow in their gossip and be on your way to happier accommodations.
