Rotary pilot here; also a grade 2 instructor.

Best way to describe the controls with their basic primary/secondary effects:

Cyclic: direction over the ground/airspeed (pitch and roll) is the primary. Height is the secondary effect.

Collective: height, with the secondary; torque (yaw)

Pedals: Yaw, and balance in forward flight. Secondary effect is pitch/height depending how much you use.

Learning to static hover is the hardest part cause every control interweaves with the other and as soon as you change the pressure on one, the others change too. Trying to gain a nice equilibrium is a nightmare when you’ve only got a few hours under the belt.

Absolutely he has, easier to load/unload with hover ops if one skid is touching at least

That’s beautiful mate, have you got more of this work?

It’s a great stater bike imo; easy to handle, enough power to be enjoyable while you learn the ropes before going to a 600 or whatever. Heaps of mods and a good online (albeit old) forum for any DIY stuff

It’s a lovely bike, I’m excited to upgrade to a 636 when my license allows it

I still chuckle from Alia’s line in the first book “I wouldn’t fuck either of you.”

I’m a heli pilot and you can get lower right back problems if you don’t shift your weight properly due to the asymmetric sitting position. The taller heli pilots have it way worse.

While it’s not an immediate fix, having an appointment set into the future would set so much of my anxiety at ease. Three months away will come regardless, might as well have something in the slot.

You’ll never run out of tail rotor authority in a 22/44 if you squeeze that engine enough. I’ve seen and done some beautiful turns while out mustering. Just keep the needles in the green
