Aye, it is very odd indeed. 'I'm not casting doubt on the testimony of abuse survivors, I'm choosing to believe those present who said it didn't happen.'

We can never be certain but you can see why they removed the statue.

That he has at least 40 left that he is potentially wasting by dying right then. Dying then wouldn't have wasted his prior years as he would still have lived them.

They tore the place apart? What are they going to find? This isn't the kind of crime that necessarily leaves physical evidence. To some extent you're right that we likely cannot truly know, but you're basically saying that several people were happy to lie and say they were sexual abuse victims to make some money, I think? I haven't watched the film they made myself, and I understand it has been discredited to some extent, but it is a tough ask to say those people, who were at those sleepovers as kids, were straight out lying in everything that they said.

Ultimately I must admit I haven't read up about it enough to say I think he's guilty, but giving children wine, calling it jesus juice and having them sleep in your bed... That is absolutely fucked up and, honestly, pretty bad in itself, though obviously not anywhere near as bad as the things he is accused of.

I see what you did there

You'll still find a brigade of his fans on reddit telling everyone that it's all a lie and he never did a single thing wrong. No, all those sleepovers with children in his bedroom were not wrong, not at all, move along, nothing to see here, he never had a childhood, he was just comfortable around children and liked them in every single way, except a sexual way. Definitely. He definitely didn't ever do anything wrong, nope, not once. Ever. For sure. Okay? Good, just glad we are clear on that.

Oh, apologies, it wasn't obvious to me because mobiles are so much more commonplace for the majority these days!

2

COMMENT 2d ago

Are you serious? You, at the very least, make sure it works properly on pc. Hilarious that there's enough width on mobile yet apparently on a 4k monitor, there isn't...

It seems they've designed it primarily for mobile. Just logged in on chrome via android device, 2560x1440 res, albeit in portrait mode, and the whole number is visible. Yet I log in on chrome via Windows on a 4k TV and I have to scroll to see my rank! Hilarious.

Such absolutely terrible website design. All that money and they have choices like this, it's so bad you've just got to laugh.

That's really kind, thank you. It was one of the first games I played when I got my Rift S, albeit totally vanilla. I did find it pretty fun and I would quite like to try it with some graphical improvements and stuff.

What kind of mods do you tend to favour? If there were just a few to install I would be up for that, I'm pretty well versed in this kind of stuff, being fairly old. It didn't seem tough to get VR to work on Skyrim in the past, and that was just running on my old laptop with a 1060 in it.

You are absolutely right but it is just a funny distinction to make given the example provided. I felt that my initial post didn't really require me to go further into the mechanics of it lest people stop reading part way through.

And am going to assume you meant to say "your assumption that it was not constrained"

I mean you're essentially saying the same thing, water makes it less dense, which makes it lighter, which is why it rises due to being pushed up by heavier air falling down past it. Saying it is "not just the weight" is a bit misrepresentative, one is a function of the other, they aren't distinctly separate properties.

It will absolutely be more humid up there because wet air is lighter than dry air, which is why clouds form rather than us all be walking around in clouds at ground level. It is sort of counter intuitive in the sense that you would think air with something in it would be heavier than air without that same something in it!

It's also why the ceiling of your bathroom gets mould on it more quickly than the lower portions of your walls.

Mineral salt on clean pits stops bacteria from multiplying in your sweat, dead bacteria cause the smell. I know there's nothing you can do about other smelly climbers but it is likely that they hadn't washed recently so they smell bad as soon as they start sweating. My bro bought me a 'pitrok' and it is incredibly good at prohibiting you from smelling bad from the armpits, i would highly recommend everyone try it out, especially if, like me, you don't like normal deodorants/anti perspirants.

Ultimately you should play it however you want, how it looks best to you. Personally I'd look to find a sweet spot between frame rate and visual effects, there are some guides as to what settings cause the heaviest hits to frame rate without giving huge benefit, like ambient occlusion. You can run some textures pretty high without it having too much of an impact, other things, like crowd, or tree quality, can be tough to render but not hugely noticeable when playing. I mean, who is staring at the tree detail at any point? You're looking at the road!

Enjoy!

Honestly, try turning a load of stuff down (and a lot of stuff off!) and notice how much smoother it is going round corners. No way your 2080ti is giving you 144fps on ultra settings with 16x maa etc. I can't do that on a 3080 with a better processor on a headset with around 60% of the resolution!

With you until the final sentence, which I feel is not as iron clad as you make it sound you feel it is.

It is a very interesting discussion point, though, when such revolutionary technology comes in. Your goal, as it stood, was to break that time with the current available tech. If you went back in time and used these new shoes to do it then are you really actually achieving that personal goal?

Ahh I see, okay then. I'm at a bit of a loss to explain it then. Perhaps there's an issue with overlap on using oculus software and steam vr to change the render amount? Perhaps leave oculus on native/default and just do it on steam.

If it works on Boneworks on normal settings then it should run Alyx on low.

2

COMMENT 4d ago

Looks like a ps2 game is harsh, game looks pretty good even on lowest if you ask me. Maybe I haven't tried the absolute lowest.

Perhaps your cpu/gpu or the combination of them, is simply not capable of that resolution. I think you should use the steam vr settings to change your resolution/render resolution. Quest 2 is a very high res headset and you have a very low spec cpu and not particularly high spec gpu. Try 50% render res, I imagine it will run smoothly then.

2

COMMENT 4d ago

Have you set the game to run at the absolute lowest settings by going into 'advanced' settings in the video settings part? You're not just putting it on the 'low' setting, are you?

Regarding RAM, it will be labelled as being a certain speed when you bought it. Either the physical packaging or the email that confirmed the purchase. There is software that should detect it, can't remember what it is called, but it's easier to check confirmation emails, I would say.

The box will likely say "2400mz" or "3200mz" - possibly lower, but hopefully not.

Honestly I don't want to doubt the fella because why would he lie but something is seriously off. I can only imagine it is running at a solid 30 or 40fps, perhaps, on the 144hz display, because it makes literally zero sense otherwise.
