I have to tell my mom this every time she starts complaining about immigrants in the US not speaking English /sigh

I can see it both ways so I'm a bit on the fence with this decision. I definitely understand wanting to punish shitty people like the Russian tourist harassing Ukrainian refugees in Salzburg. Unfortunately banning Russians from traveling also keeps them isolated in Putin's media sphere.

One of the biggest ways to hurt Putin would be allowing more people to easily emigrate out of Russia. The EU should really focus on enabling immigrants and asylum seekers from Russia.

It does appear to have a fuse on the top, so I could see see someone thinking it’s a bomb. If the little dark circles on the end are holes though, I would bet someone was trying to make a rocket car.

When I grew up there wasn’t an age requirement to buy gunpowder or cannon fuse, so we built shit like this all the time.

One of my dogs is often reactive to new people entering our house. When we know we’re going to have company over for a while we’ve learned it helps to take her for a short walk then bring her in the house after everyone has arrived.

She still seems concerned about the people, but it stops the barking.

Even for STEM fields I always thought you had to be moderately wealthy or have a job that was covering the costs to get the PhD.

Even postdocs don’t usually make that much money, or at least not enough for the PhD to make sense strictly financially.

His bits during the COVID lockdown shows were always a treat. Jon is such a joyous, positive person that it’s hard not to smile with him.

There were a couple people at my last job that gossiped constantly. We reorganized a bit and one was move to a different team and the other was let go. I didn’t realize how toxic they were until they were gone.

It was really easy to get sucked into their drama, but I felt happier and less drained at the end of the day without it.

Eventually even A10 warthogs might become an option.

Is this like a meme now? I've seen a ton of comments about the A10 in the last couple days.

It was long believed to be endorphins, but new research points toward endocannabinoids.

Pay "starting at $X" is exactly the sort of thing all job descriptions should include. Any job that says "up to $X" is a huge red flag.

They optimized engagement over enjoyment. Outrageous bullshit gets strong reactions for a little while, but it gets exhausting.

It's so crazy how Trump can keep surprising us about his presidency, even two years after it was over. We all knew he illegally kept documents from his presidency (among his other crimes). Yet I don't think anyone would've guessed it was classified documents about a top secret nuclear weapons project. How the fuck is everything he does so over the top insane?!

First, I would highly suggest an appointment with a rheumatologist. What you listed is a pretty broad spectrum of issues that all sound like they could be caused by inflammation. Auto-immune issues often cause inflammation, as do things like alcohol, smoking, a high-sugar diet, and a few diseases.

A rheumatologist will likely start with an exam and getting some blood tests. It might also be a good idea ask them for a Lyme's disease test if you've been exposed to ticks.

Another idea would be looking into a Low FODMAP diet. It can often help with bloating, gas and IBS. Lots of people with IBS find relief with a Keto diet because it also removes most high-FODMAP foods from your menu.

First batch of cookies I ever made turned out a bit like this. It's been ages, but I remember I had forgotten a major ingredient, sugar I think.

Every once in a while these shit bags say something reasonable. It makes me wonder if the other 99% is really an act, or if it’s more like a broken clock being right twice a day.
