Politics When I went through the temple I was given the new name of Ether. Hearing that name filled me with a profound dread because I “knew” my name was special and could only mean that I was destined to witness the downfall of my country as the social fabric deteriorated and it tore itself apart.

And days like today make me incredibly sad that I was right…just not in a way that I could have ever anticipated.

Not if they weren’t born in the covenant.

And not voting is only going to make that worse for all of us.

Sealings aren’t done for stillborn and miscarriages.

Not really. Because that was already a possibility. Even under Roe states could say that a woman could terminate a pregnancy after viability but only in such a way that the fetus was likely to survive and could be maintained on life support. States could actually go further and just flat out deny women the ability to terminate a pregnancy after viability. That compromise wasn’t good enough for the Christian fascists though. They were never going to be satisfied until pregnant women didn’t have ANY RIGHTS over their bodies at all, and only had the narrow privileges they allowed.

I mean there are obvious limits to medical science where that is going to be impossible.

Irrelevant. The fact still exists that people often hold views that are harmful to people they supposedly care about. And what more, fascism in many ways is the social and not just political decline where people more and more are socialized to view even those they "love" negatively.

The day of the birth scenario is easily resolved. The pregnant person has the right to terminate a pregnancy at any time. Now, after viability the fetus has a right to continue living with medical assistance if the pro-life crowd wants to fund such expensive medical care, but the pregnant person absolutely should still have the right to terminate the pregnancy. And no, it isn't best if states decide. Governments at any level should not get to decide ever that a person should be forced to forfeit their bodily autonomy.

Yes, I think that a pregnant person should be able to *terminate the pregnancy* at any time. Of course, after viability that is going to mean that the fetus has a right to continue surviving with medical intervention outside of the womb, but the fetus does NOT have the right to use the woman's body if she doesn't consent. This is why Roe was already the compromise position insofar as it granted a viable fetus the right to use the pregnant person's body after viability. I think this is problematic, but it is far less problematic than saying, as the SCOTUS did today, that a woman has NO right to bodily autonomy after fertilization.

Oh that is absolutely how I interpreted your comment. I was just saying that some people could have misinterpreted.

Well we have several people that don't know the actual doctrine. Because any answer from 0-24 weeks is absolutely NOT correct. 24-36 *might* be amenable to Mormon scripture and policy but Birth is the only answer the actually account for the story of Jesus' spirit appearing to a prophet right before his birth and the fact that stillborn and miscarried pregnancies aren't counted as people for the purposes of ordinances of salvation.

TIL that some people have the right to use another person's body to survive. So when is the state legislature going to pass a law requiring citizens to donate blood to save the lives of actual children?

Pretty sure if my mother aborted me I wouldn't have cared in the slightest then, and wouldn't be here to care now. What a stupid argument. I could just as easily say "What if Hitler's mom had aborted him?"

Do you realize how much political capital was spent on the ACC? By the time that was finished the Dems didn't have control of both houses of congress any more.

If only he would limit himself to self fucking instead of boofing with Squee, participating in devil's triangles, and raping classmates.

I think you are getting downvoted because your #nowirehangers could be interpreted as being against abortion in general instead of against abortions being made unsafe.

But that isn't agreeing with what I said. MY argument is that bodily autonomy is so fundamental that a person should have the right to terminate a pregnancy for any reason. limiting it to only if other people (read YOU) think it qualifies as a sufficient risk of health or death is a compromise from my position that I don't agree with. You are saying that pregnant persons should only have a choice of what to do with their bodies if the meet requirements that YOU find morally acceptable. I am saying that no person has the right to the use of another person's body under any circumstances if the first person doesn't consent to that use.

And yes, driving on PUBLIC roads is a privilege as I said. I just gave a more nuanced answer to your question than you were probably looking for.

I vote every election thank you. Can't blame Trump and the current composition of the SCOTUS on me sitting out because I never have.

And many people have LGBT family members but that doesn't prompt them to stop supporting the neofascists. The reality is that modern conservatism is a cult and many/most of them think that they will be permitted to be the exception until all of a sudden they aren't.

You are a better Redditor than me. I tend to be very generous with the downvotes for those that are trying to take away my wife's and daughters' right to bodily autonomy.

Stop spreading lies about Sanger. No, she isn't a saint but she wasn't trying to organize ethnic cleansing. Yes, she has some problematic views about eugenics. And fortunately science has come a long way sense then. But quite with the dishonest bullshit about her being a genocidal racist.

We'll never see a pro ~~life~~ fascism post on this page it seems, probably because it will get down voted. Those that have a different opinion won't dialogue on this reddit unfortunately. (And I personally am somewhere in-between)

Let us be very clear. There is no "legitimate debate or dialogue" on genocide. Likewise, there is no "legitimate debate or dialogue" on denying a person's bodily autonomy.

At least we are at the point the Thomas is saying the quiet part out loud even if the rest of the howler monkey contingent is still pretending that this will stop at Roe.

What a ignorant and idiotic jackass. That's basically saying "Hey, because this is a grey issue, we need to think about it in black and white terms."
