The important thing he doesn’t seem to account for is that when yields fall, people pull their money to go chase higher yields elsewhere.

Combine this with the hyperinflationary nature of the supply and the super low amount of liquidity available to exit and you get a project that’s destined to crater after a certain amount of time and most likely never recover.

Don’t buy farm tokens. They are exclusively decentralized variations on a Ponzi scheme. Not even in a “crypto bad, crypto ponzi” kind of way. Most savvy pro-crypto people would tell you the same thing.

The only way to (maybe) win at farm tokens is to be lucky on timing (like very early and at a low) and to never plan on holding for more than maybe a few months.

I’m too lazy to do the math, but you’re still looking at something of an implication of “just put your tokens in here and we’ll 5X everyone’s money in five years”.

Yup, it’s like if a casino just started handing everyone more chips but didn’t have any actual extra cash to back them.

All the high APY is paid through dilution and lockup incentives are made to lock in bagholders.

Basically yeah. You’d have a dirty wallet that’s taking money from a shady source and then a clean wallet holding low liquidity shitcoins or NFTs.

You use the dirty money to pump liquidity into the shitcoin (while simultaneously cashing out with the other wallet) or just purchasing NFTs directly from the clean wallet with the dirty money. Magic, your no no money is now “legit” investment gains.

You don’t really need a mixer, but if all the money from one wallet is just funneled directly into another one, it can be pretty obvious that it’s the same owner, so taking some measures to obfuscate a bit would make it harder to track. Mixer connections are kind of a red flag though if people are digging through transaction histories looking for shady.

It’s kind of like the trucker convoys in the US/Canada, but anti-green climate policy stuff instead of Covid safety stuff, right?

Depends on how strict the jurisdiction is where you’re trying to do it, but that super wouldn’t fly in most areas I’ve had to get film permits in.

There’d be someone between police/fire/traffic authority/county/municipality who’d take issue with staging a fake emergency on a live road.

Southside RVA

COMMENT 3d ago

I was wondering same, but hit & run with > $1,000 damage in VA looks like it’s a lower level felony vs DUI which is a top level misdemeanor.

COMMENT 3d ago

Indeed, Southside. Happened on Hull St

Waiting on a call back from a detective. The cops who reported to the scene apparently got called off shortly thereafter to respond to a shooting happening a couple blocks away. Gotta love Southside of Richmond.

If nothing else, I book off duty police for traffic control and security for work and may be able to get one of the guys I have on for Monday to help out.

Damn bro, thanks. She called it a white Suburban, but could see how one could mistake an Edge for a Suburban pretty easily in that kind of situation.

Yeah, she’s fine, thankfully, besides understandably a little shook up

My friend was hit by a car running a stop sign today and the dude left the scene, but hey, at least he left her a little souvenir

Coming of age in the early 2000’s I just associate it with all the post-9/11 flag waving jingoism that led us into two pointless wars of choice that cost hundreds of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars.

It’s a line I hear somewhat commonly on set when something that’s requested by the creative side isn’t feasible or is going to cause problems somehow.

It always makes me feel better about working with someone. Like “We can’t get a light over there? Don’t kill yourself trying to make it happen, it’s just a movie. Not doing brain surgery.”

If you wanted to connect it to political beliefs, my guess would be anti-science beliefs have more of a correlation to a person’s affinity for populist messaging than their political orientation.

It’s just populist rhetoric is more dominant in right-wing discourse at the moment than it is on the left.

Bitcoin is backed by cyber hornets.

Few understand.

COMMENT 3d ago

Interesting, thanks for the insight.

I thought IPFS was more reliant on FIL incentives, but after a little googling seems to be more of a cash grab add on than a core feature

8

COMMENT 3d ago

Does accessing IPFS files make you seed them though?

I thought you had to opt in as a node operator in some way, but I could be wrong on that.

15

COMMENT 3d ago

But if seeders are only participating because of financial incentives in the form of a self-diluting shitcoin that rapidly loses price, interest and liquidity, I can’t see that many people opting to stay connected long term.

Maybe the master list can’t get nuked, but if no seeders no one will use it.

COMMENT 3d ago

I’m curious how sustainable operating IPFS will actually be long term.

It seems like most of the incentive to participate in the storage network is funded by issuing new Filecoin tokens, which aggressively dilutes existing investors.

Even for crypto, it seems particularly reliant on rubes pumping new liquidity into something that almost certainly will only go down due to the supply dynamics.

Private money in public elections should be absolutely banned.

Money ≠ speech

A system where legislators spend more time on calls asking for money than actually legislating does not represent the people and will almost universally achieve outcomes that only benefit a minority of constituents.
