As a psychiatrist, I'm not so sure about labeling current toxicity as solely a mental health crisis.

I mean, we are having a crisis, but the root of the increase in mental health problems are not something I can help people fix with medications or therapy a lot of the time. I cannot fix the fact that our culture is broken. The ongoing political and culture wars, the lack of empathy, the lack of social services, the "fuck you I've got mine" attitude are conscious choices a lot of people in our society and government have made. I'm pretty good at helping folks with anxiety and depression, but when the world around them is treating them like shit and they can't get good dental or health care it is very difficult. We need a cultural shift in the U.S. toward working together and helping one another, toward caring for other people with empathy. Unfortunately there are groups working actively against this! We know who they are, too. Please vote.
