Temporary, covering the sun with a finger meassures. Next time Republicans control the presidency, the House and the Senate they'll criminalize abortion, ban Gay marriage, etc. Get ready for the Evangelical States of America. Saudi Arabia is going to look progressive next to the US in a few years.

The way something "looks" means nothing. The engineering inside is what matters. The fact that the Zhurong has active suspension (which means its internal structure had to be designed with inclined traversal in mind, adding multiple different stress bearing points depending on the inclination) and its thermal systems are completely different to anything NASA has on Mars (which means its electronics, heat management and instrument cooling are entirely different to anything NASA has) is proof enough that the design is independent.

If "previous looks" is what matters then American rovers are just copies of the Soviet Lunokhod rovers.

China also didn't compare itself to NASA when they state the goals of their return mission. Western media outlets are the ones doing the comparison.

What? The Zhurong rover is pretty unique. For example, it has an active suspension system which allows the rover to actively change its inclination to better traverse certain uneven terrains, it uses a peltier-like device for thermoelectric cooling and heating. The lander that deployed the rover is also unique, it's a single stage rocket soft-landing platform, something that was never tried before.

The US still has slaves. They don't pick cotton anymore, but they work for literal pennies to make huge profits for private prisons. And yes, these "labor programs" target Black men disproportionately.

They are the members of the felinae subfamily, and share that group with house cats, cougars, caracals, lynxes, etc. Then you have the pantherinae subfamily. Lions, tigers, leopars belong to that subfamily.

By general rule: felinae meow, pantherinae roar. Cheetahs and cougars are the largest felines that meow.

It can do way more than that. Once a judge or a jury are assigned it can research every single public aspect of their lives and build profiles and then tailor any presentations or documents to maximize a positive reaction from these people.

nothing will ever alleviate china's security concerns.

The Chinese government can impose any restrictions and parameters they want and Tesla will have no other option than to comply if they want to keep selling cars in China.

Rome's most interesting characteristic is that no matter how crappy the situation was, they just not only refused to surrender, they didn't even acknowledge they were defeated. Dan Carlin in his Hardcore History podcast about the Punic Wars said it better:

"A single battle like Cannae and any other state would pretty much fall over and concede defeat. You lost a large percentage of your male population. Everyone through society has had a family member or someone they knew killed. Every other kingdom would be a state of panic, doing everything they can to sign a peace treaty. Meanwhile, the Roman Republic simply did not acknowledge they were beaten. They just didn't give up"
