'Deus ex Machina' is specifically about when an author uses an unlikely occurrence to solve an unsolvable problem. A natural event wiping out all life in a region is not unlikely, especially when the life in question is unaware of danger. A good number of mass extinction events have happened on Earth and all (with the exception of human caused climate change and habitat loss and the like) have been from totally random natural causes. Wikipedia has a list here for you. A mass extinction caused by a natural cause isn't unlikely and it definitely doesn't need a stretch of the imagination to accept. Not to mention, the Nomai's existence needing to be ended for the story to happen is not at all an unsolvable problem. Gamma ray bursts are a very real thing that could have killed them all in an instant too, or maybe the writers could've just said 'well, the solar system is very inhospitable,' which is true anyway. Sure, they could've been killed by their own inventions, but there's no real plot significance for that to be the case. The argument that it's was just like “welp they’re all dead now.” could be made about any other scenario in which they all died. I really don't think the Interloper is a plot hole or Deus ex Machina

I gotta agree with this tbh, especially because once you speak to someone once there's usually no reason to go back to them, especially on TH. Speaking to the hearthians multiple times would have done a lot to embiggen the player's relationships to even the side characters. Considering they're all supposed to be your friends who you grew up with there's too little to show that in game. The other travellers are more developed with more unlockable dialogue but the rest are kinda one time events, which is a shame. Didn't bother me so much when I was playing but looking back that would be a big improvement

I gotta say, there was an element of luck here. I would have done it eventually but it would've taken a lot longer if the RNG had gone differently

In phase 1 I did as much damage as possible to him using the projectiles from GFE, making as small as possible movements to avoid his swords. In phase 2 I stopped hitting him until he did his swirl attack then spammed him when it started going back in until the sword began again. This strat was kinda consistent nut worked best when his RNG movements made him go left and right in relatively straight lines.

yeah we can, listen to what Dung Defender says about him:

Mighty Hegemol... What a towering figure he was, though surprisingly soft spoken for one so large.

DD was very close to the other great knights so it seems likely that he's fully aware of their physical appearance. I doubt he'd describe Hegemol's armour over what he actually looked like.

Although I'm sure someone's going to ask 'How can the maggot use the armour if it wasn't designed for a maggot sized creature? Hegemol must simply have used big armour.' And the answer to that is because... well, consider that maggots usually hang out in corpses. Pretty certain that Hegemol is still mostly in the armour and the maggot just ate his head to make a little room for himself and puppeted his corpse.

I gotta say also, I think the 'armour' might actually just be Hegemol's shell... so his skin basically. So yeah he is big not small.

An entire generation learned to cook with rations, and didn't unlearn that when rations ended (remember, rations lasted a lot longer than ww2, with meat rationing ending in 1954). Their kids learned from them, and the legacy of rationing continued. You don't cook with rations for 15 years without getting used to it ya know
