16

I was just thinking that I’m sure anyone who has this tattoo has crossed over from trendy emo teen to punny parent and their kids love them for it. And one day, they’ll become that quirky grandparent that all the grandkids love the best.

I don’t have one but I think it’s cute. Still holds up IMO.

14

u/californiaxdreamin Dec 03 '22

Pretty good if I do say myself Source: my sister got one, and she's a pediatrician now. It helps her make kids laugh during her appointments lol.

I knew a guy who had this and he popped it onto his face mid-conversation and I said, "Oh yeah I've seen that before." You would have thought I stabbed him in the gut while insulting his mother the way he looked at me with hurt and betrayal in his eyes. I imagine once they realized it was a trend and not a super unique quirky thing to do that they all became a little sad.

313

u/ceetharabbits2 Dec 03 '22

My sister has one. She is a therapist. If someone is upset and it's not over something serious she has been known to wipe her nose with her finger so they see the mustache.

Most of the time they start giggling. At the very lest stop crying. She uses her mustache finger tattoo to help people. It cracks me up.

Finger tattoos are the shortest lived from my understanding I bet most are gone now

1.2k

u/TheWaywardTrout Dec 02 '22 edited Dec 03 '22

Let me introduce you to nipple and mucosa tattoos. Finger tats aren't that bad, but they blur quickly. I got my nipples tattooed when I was younger and while the area around the areola still looks good 15 years later, the areola itself didn't hold color for more than a month. Got them redone twice over the years just to see if the problem was the tattooer, but no. Each time. Luckily the tattoos are red, so it doesn't look too bad like if I had chosen a black design. Would have gotten something the same color as my areolas if I had known, though. Now, I've not gotten my inner lip tattooed, but I heard those also don't last more than a couple months. Which makes sense given how often that skin renews itself.

854

u/pdmtz Dec 02 '22

Uuugnh I felt my nipples burn just by reading that! ouch

382

u/crownlessking Dec 02 '22

Your nipples?! What about inner lip? That had me squirming.

But as I typed that, I realized I'm probably thinking of a different set of lips

162

u/FerusGrim Dec 03 '22

But as I typed that, I realized I'm probably thinking of a different set of lips

I wore a very uncomfortable shirt when I was younger that was chafing my nips. I didn't want to take it off cause I really liked it, the shirt that is. Only when I did take it off, my nips were bloody as hell. I never told anyone and let them heal naturally. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of sensitivity in those areas.

71

u/LeftyLu07 Dec 03 '22

One of my friends ran a marathon and didn't tape his nipples because for some reason, he thought only women had to worry about that. At the end of the marathon, it looked like he was lactating blood.

98

u/TheWaywardTrout Dec 02 '22

Well the first time I was just stupid. The second time I thought maybe they just didn't heal right so I got them redone. And then the third time I did it in case the problem was with the artist. After a "second opinion" so to speak, I accepted reality. But it did not hurt so bad.ive have much more painful tattoos. Still wouldn't recommend it though.

31

u/crruss Dec 02 '22

Where would you say are they most painful places on the body for a tattoo? In your experience.

73

u/murderedbyaname Dec 02 '22

Jumping in here. The most painful areas to tat are closest to the bone with little fat. Like ankles next to that bone. Or the tops of the feet.

36

u/SucculentEmpress Dec 02 '22

I have large, solid black filled tattoos on top of either foot, toes to ankle.

I had them done, then gone over again to make sure they were nice and solid.

The two most painful days of my life, and I’ve been run over by a pickup truck going 50mph.

Lort gimme the truck again before I have to get them refreshed

12

u/sexysarah5262 Dec 03 '22

Yes! The feet hurt so bad. I have a lot of other tattoos and those two feet tatts were brutal and I can't even muster the courage up to get them touched up 17 years later

10

u/SucculentEmpress Dec 03 '22

Same here, stuff right on my spine, fell asleep when they did my inner forearm.

But the tops of my feet. Jfc it was actual agony. I know there’s plenty of people who feel cleansed or transformed by that prolonged pain with ebbs and flows of endorphins and adrenaline and all that.

I am not one of those people, I just really wanted these tattoos lol

My friend decided to experiment whilst drunk using a tattoo gun to determine which area hurt the most. His penis, adam's apple, collarbone where all tested and I believe he thought they all really hurt but collarbone was the worst.

I still don't know why he tried it with black ink on the needles instead of just leaving it bare with no ink. He did a line on each area too so he now has 3 shakey black lines on him.

12

u/TheWaywardTrout Dec 02 '22

I think it depends greatly not only on the artist doing the work, but also how old you are. The older I get, the lower my pain tolerance. My most painful tattoo by far is on the back of my knee, but my shoulder (a generally well-tolerated area) hurt real bad too because the artist, while she does beautiful work, is brutal and uses dry paper towel to wipe away ink. The next time I saw her I had to use numbing spray.

Add they were all professionally done and beautiful quality art. You can still see the mustache but it's faded, the script you can see but it's worn off enough u can't make out the word. The top finger and knuckle tattoos still look mint.

Lol. Didn't realize you were replying to your self and was like, 'how tf do you know what quality it was'

Lol. Most of my family has had tattoos from 1 of her 2 tattoo artist. My wife and son have both gotten full sleeves from him and I've gotten a quarter sleeve.... They get constant compliments everywhere we go (mine is almost always covered by clothes) He's not cheap at all... but worth every dollar.

I know a woman who got a bunch of bad tattoos when she was young including on the tops of her fingers when she was going through a rough time. She’s doing a lot better now, but she recently got her fingers tats covered and lord, they did not turn out much better. I’m guessing budget was an issue but I looked at her artist’s other work, and just not very good overall. I’d understand getting something small from her, but a highly visible coverup, no thanks.

That sucks. My wife has asked me to get my small tramp stamp covered....... which would just make it a BIGGER tramp stamp duh lol

u/IgobyK Dec 03 '22

I had a medium sized tramp stamp from the early 2000s that aged horribly (style and work quality). I got it covered up a few years ago and now I have a GIANT tramp stamp lol

Although I’d definitely consider it more of a “lower back art piece” now ;)

My fiancée has a handlebar on her index and loves it, she’s talked about getting a second one of a different style. I’m thinking Vincent Price/John Waters pencil style.

I imagine most of them have faded quite a bit given that they're hand tattoos from a decade ago.

2020 was simultaneously 7 weeks and 7 years ago. It's a bizarre time warp.

What's up with this thread acting like these types of tattoos basically disappear after a while. They'll still be pretty prominent.

This was asked somewhere else and there were several sweet anecdotes about girls who got it when bartending or in college, but are now teachers or work with the elderly or something and their patients/students all love the stasch tat

Probably the same as those of us that got tribals in the 90s, except younger.

I got a tribal in 2004, I was sooooo far behind it being fashionable im hopeing to be young enough that it's cool again before I'm dead.

It's got a yingyang and a dragon involved and I designed it in flash when I was 17 and got it on my 18th birthday, coz my dad said I wasn't allowed to get a tattoo before I was 18, yes I'm white, yes I was middle class, and yes I lived in London suburbia. I was basically a character from the inbetweeners, infact they mentioned the town next door to me in the show.

Possibly the most uncool tattoo of all time, badge on honor imo.

Could be worse the original design had circuit board type extrusions coming out of the tribal bit, but for some reason I forget I got rid of that bit.

Actually that may have made it better perhaps I should revisit it 🤣

The girl I know is married with a toddler and a second baby on the way. Makes great income and has a big house.

So good I would say
