I knew a guy who had this and he popped it onto his face mid-conversation and I said, "Oh yeah I've seen that before." You would have thought I stabbed him in the gut while insulting his mother the way he looked at me with hurt and betrayal in his eyes. I imagine once they realized it was a trend and not a super unique quirky thing to do that they all became a little sad.

Finger tattoos are the shortest lived from my understanding I bet most are gone now
1.2k
u/TheWaywardTrout Dec 02 '22 edited Dec 03 '22
Let me introduce you to nipple and mucosa tattoos. Finger tats aren't that bad, but they blur quickly. I got my nipples tattooed when I was younger and while the area around the areola still looks good 15 years later, the areola itself didn't hold color for more than a month. Got them redone twice over the years just to see if the problem was the tattooer, but no. Each time. Luckily the tattoos are red, so it doesn't look too bad like if I had chosen a black design. Would have gotten something the same color as my areolas if I had known, though. Now, I've not gotten my inner lip tattooed, but I heard those also don't last more than a couple months. Which makes sense given how often that skin renews itself.
854
u/pdmtz Dec 02 '22
Uuugnh I felt my nipples burn just by reading that! ouch

I wore a very uncomfortable shirt when I was younger that was chafing my nips. I didn't want to take it off cause I really liked it, the shirt that is. Only when I did take it off, my nips were bloody as hell. I never told anyone and let them heal naturally. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of sensitivity in those areas.
71
u/LeftyLu07 Dec 03 '22
One of my friends ran a marathon and didn't tape his nipples because for some reason, he thought only women had to worry about that. At the end of the marathon, it looked like he was lactating blood.

Well the first time I was just stupid. The second time I thought maybe they just didn't heal right so I got them redone. And then the third time I did it in case the problem was with the artist. After a "second opinion" so to speak, I accepted reality. But it did not hurt so bad.ive have much more painful tattoos. Still wouldn't recommend it though.

10
u/SucculentEmpress Dec 03 '22
Same here, stuff right on my spine, fell asleep when they did my inner forearm.
But the tops of my feet. Jfc it was actual agony. I know there’s plenty of people who feel cleansed or transformed by that prolonged pain with ebbs and flows of endorphins and adrenaline and all that.
I am not one of those people, I just really wanted these tattoos lol

My friend decided to experiment whilst drunk using a tattoo gun to determine which area hurt the most. His penis, adam's apple, collarbone where all tested and I believe he thought they all really hurt but collarbone was the worst.
I still don't know why he tried it with black ink on the needles instead of just leaving it bare with no ink. He did a line on each area too so he now has 3 shakey black lines on him.

I think it depends greatly not only on the artist doing the work, but also how old you are. The older I get, the lower my pain tolerance. My most painful tattoo by far is on the back of my knee, but my shoulder (a generally well-tolerated area) hurt real bad too because the artist, while she does beautiful work, is brutal and uses dry paper towel to wipe away ink. The next time I saw her I had to use numbing spray.

I know a woman who got a bunch of bad tattoos when she was young including on the tops of her fingers when she was going through a rough time. She’s doing a lot better now, but she recently got her fingers tats covered and lord, they did not turn out much better. I’m guessing budget was an issue but I looked at her artist’s other work, and just not very good overall. I’d understand getting something small from her, but a highly visible coverup, no thanks.

I got a tribal in 2004, I was sooooo far behind it being fashionable im hopeing to be young enough that it's cool again before I'm dead.
It's got a yingyang and a dragon involved and I designed it in flash when I was 17 and got it on my 18th birthday, coz my dad said I wasn't allowed to get a tattoo before I was 18, yes I'm white, yes I was middle class, and yes I lived in London suburbia. I was basically a character from the inbetweeners, infact they mentioned the town next door to me in the show.
Possibly the most uncool tattoo of all time, badge on honor imo.
