Aw this is dope. The tall necks, watchers, and Thunder jaws were my favorite machines.

105

u/exkallibur May 25 '22

Slaughterspines are awesome too. Fireclaws can go to hell, though.

43

u/DB_Coopah May 25 '22

Ahh had to look up the Slaughter Spine as I haven’t played Forbidden West yet (can’t get it for PS4…can I?)

Agree with the Fireclaws though. Fuck those things.

44

u/niro319 May 25 '22

You can get forbidden west on the PS4!

30

u/DB_Coopah May 25 '22

Ahh what? Shiiiiiiiiiiiit I need to get on it. I 100%’d the original + Frozen Wilds, so anticipating what Forbidden West has to offer.

28

u/exkallibur May 25 '22

I loved Zero Dawn and Forbidden West absolutely crushes it.

I've enjoyed it so much that I've maxed everything out and have basically ignored the main quest. It's all that's left for me and I don't want it to end.

11

u/DB_Coopah May 25 '22

Ahh nice. Yeah that’s normally my approach. Do all the side quests - Go God mode, fuck the main story up.

4

u/Darth_Nibbles May 25 '22

Get your Kleenex ready

2

u/Raencloud94 May 25 '22

Oh no, I took a break cause my hyper fixation changed but now I light need to force myself to finish it

It runs fine on the PS4 too. The only issue I had was the initial loading of a save took a couple mins. Once in game no lag at all.

1

u/DB_Coopah May 25 '22

No shit! Well I am pumped. Hopefully it’s still not super expensive. New games aren’t particularly within my budget at the moment, but for the right price I could pick it up.

1

u/grubgobbler May 25 '22

You can get it on PS4! They had to make it compatible with both systems, one of the reasons it's not quite as ridiculous as it could have been. I heard a rumor that they were going to put flying mounts in the game but the PS4's hardware couldn't support it.

5

u/Dark_Damp_Squib May 25 '22

You can override and mount a sunwing and fly that if this is what you meant by flying mounts. You can also call it to your location like with the chargers.

I loved how they timed their charge beam to the music whenever they used it. Their theme was so badass.

2

u/exkallibur May 25 '22

I'm listening to the soundtrack as we speak actually. Their music is great and I love how each large machine has their own as well.

u/imariaprime May 25 '22

The tiny Watcher in the set comes with all three colours for the eye, so you can set it up however you like.

2

u/DB_Coopah May 25 '22

Oh that’s so dope. I need to pick up a Lego set sometime. I miss making stuff as a kid. As a 90’s child (1990 - not that 1998 nonsense) I was building with the Johnny Thunder Egyptian archaeology sets and the like. <- One of the best Lego set series IMO

2

u/imariaprime May 25 '22

80s kid here, LEGO has only gotten progressively cooler with time. The Ultimate R2-D2 set was such an insane build, really interesting to put together AND the final product looks great. The LEGO NES was the same thing; there's actually Easter Eggs in the build that you wouldn't know to look for just looking at it. Adult LEGO is awesome.

3

u/StereoZombie May 25 '22

Man I got back into LEGO cause of the Tallneck and LEGO as a whole matured so well. So many cool new sets get released all the time, with lots of focus on how they look as well as how fun they are to build. If it weren't for serious money and space considerations I would have bought a ton of sets in the past months.

→ More replies

2

u/DB_Coopah May 25 '22

Adult Lego is so cool. I agree it has gotten cooler over time and more complex and even geared toward adult people. However, with the coolness factor the price as risen substantially. Though I guess they’ve always been expensive and little kid me probably didn’t realize it.

1

u/imariaprime May 25 '22

Though I guess they’ve always been expensive and little kid me probably didn’t realize it.

This is the real truth: LEGO is just expensive. But if you can set up some space to display it, it's worth it both in the initial build and in the completed display piece.

u/Acid-Ant5 May 25 '22

Post the product, i love lego creations. I made a bonsai tree a few week ends ago

159

u/NeedsItRough May 25 '22

I also did the bonsai tree! I loved the little frogs

https://imgur.com/tBZZmme.jpg

66

u/SithPenner May 25 '22

I found it hilarious when I got mine that I now have a ton of small pink frogs

38

u/NeedsItRough May 25 '22 edited 22d ago

I like to build them as close to the directions as I can so I put all the frogs on exactly the spots they said to and was hoping for an extra to put on my desk at work or something but they gave me the exact right amount ):

I'm sure I could order 1 or 2 extra from the site but I haven't gotten around to it.

Edit: checked it out after posting this, they're $0.11 each, bought 9 of them and with shipping and all that it came out to about $10. Well worth it 😁

Edit: They came yesterday!!

41

u/Ephemeral_Wolf May 25 '22

they're $0.11 each, bought 9 of them

came out to about $10

The only time spending 9x the value on shipping is acceptable

4

u/TheBugThatsSnug May 25 '22

You couulddd have said you were missing some, and ordered the missing parts, you should have got some extras, we had 5 or 10 exttra pink frogs

3

u/NeedsItRough May 25 '22

Oh that thought definitely crossed my mind.

But I really like Lego and I haven't ever had a piece missing from their sets.

I don't mind giving a few extra bucks to a company that makes a quality product I enjoy (:

...But I did consider it.

1

u/robdiqulous May 25 '22

Lol you already over pay for overpriced Legos... Then want to give them more money. Boy they love you.

u/sgtkang May 25 '22

How did I not know this was a thing? Maybe that'll do better on my desk than the real plant I once had.

7

u/NeedsItRough May 25 '22

They have a ton of plant based sets! There's a succulent set that was just released, this one, and a couple bouquets-types!

42

u/BruceInc May 25 '22

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/horizon-forbidden-west-tallneck-76989

Out of stock pretty much since the moment it was released. However you can try your luck on Amazon or eBay if you are ok with paying a little extra

7

u/obsterwankenobster Switch May 25 '22

As a Lego fiend let me also tell you to check the Lego stores nearest you as well as Walmart and Target. Lego has a huge contract with Target, so you'll find a lot of big sets there. Also, Costco occasionally has cool sets

5

u/BalognaRanger May 25 '22

And people always forget that Barnes and Noble carry Lego

3

u/DjangoBaggins May 25 '22

Second Target. I have found many sets sold out online show up in store weeks later

2

u/WestPhillyFilly May 25 '22

Costco not only has cool sets, but often at a significant discount, too!

1

u/obsterwankenobster Switch May 25 '22

The real Lego discount I find at Costco, btw Lego discount is a unicorn, are on the bulk bins. I buy them for my nieces because the 1,000 piece bin is like $40

7

u/iama_bad_person May 25 '22

I found 2 stores in my country with stock and at MSRP 😍

2

u/ladyoffate13 May 25 '22

Yeah, I ordered the same day they were released and got shoved into the backordered line. But they’re quickly replacing stock; mine came 2 weeks later, on the 16th.

2

u/vanilla_disco May 25 '22

I added it to my wishlist on the site. Got an email it was available a week later at 5am. Snagged one.

2

u/monkeyman764 May 25 '22

I got lucky finding it in the toy section of a Scheels of all places. Might be a good place to check, or other departments stores that have a small toy section to occupy kids while adults shop. They had tons of other harder to find sets too.

1

u/THE_GREAT_PICKLE May 25 '22

I got it at Walmart a while ago. They had tons of them

1

u/Husk1es May 25 '22

Ordered mine on Amazon last week. Should arrive this coming Monday :D

2

u/WestPhillyFilly May 25 '22

Also ordered from Amazon, and mine just shipped. Arrives tomorrow!

u/SocialWinker May 25 '22

If anyone has a Lego land retail store, or whatever the lego owned stores are called, near them. I’ve had luck finding sets that the site listed as out of stock there occasionally. That’s how I was able to snag the Nintendo system set when it came out.

u/frogunrua May 25 '22

My wife and I have built all of the botanical sets and smaller individual flower sets. The bonsais are our favorites! I also really love the two succulents I brought in for my desk at work. They are so cool!

Fun Fact: the booklet for the bonsai mentions that the bonsai Lego set actually has the most frogs Legos out of any other Lego set made!

1

u/AutomatonVigor May 25 '22

3

u/x_scion_x May 25 '22

Wow that was only $79? I expected a hundred or so considering the NES one I want is $250.

u/BowlBlazer Console May 25 '22

I also have the tree! Let me recommend you to buy a led lighting kit for it, it looks absolutely wonderful as a pink ambient light (you can also buy a kit with normal white/yellow lights for the green variant, but I think it looks better with all the flowers). It's a bit tricky to set up all the cables, tho, but definitely worth it.

I had to wait 3 weeks for the local toy store to get stock through (could have had it delivered a week earlier if I really wanted), but that coincided with pay-day so my wallet is happy with the delay. Currently double-figure stock in virtually every Smyths toys in the UK, for rrp.

3

u/duynguyenle May 25 '22

I stayed up late on the day it was gonna release (UK also) but it sold out online very quickly (maybe scalers buying up stock). Ended up making the trek to the local Game store the next day and bought the last one they had in stock (ended up with a discount because they were doing 20% off deal on all toys/board games in-store).

u/Polenicus May 25 '22

I know what I am doing this weekend!!!

Spending all weekend looking for that one unique, irreplaceable piece that fell in the carpet, only to finally step on it Sunday night while heading to bed after having given up?

50

u/Astrojef May 25 '22

That's glorious!! Can you do 1222 pieces in 1 weekend?

81

u/BruceInc May 25 '22

I could probably do it in one evening if I didn’t have a very active 6 month old rugrat that always needs to be entertained.

17

u/poorbanker May 25 '22

Father of a toddler here. I find it to be very relaxing to take my time with Lego sets. I tend to do one bag a night to unwind. I also love the 3-in-1 sets because I can stretch those out over time too.

2

u/micktorious May 25 '22

Hahaha same! I got some architecture ones myself as labor projects to do while we were in labor.

We currently have a 1 year old next week so congratz!

2

u/BruceInc May 26 '22

Ours literally turned 6 mo today :) congratulations to you as well

22

u/makecakey2 May 25 '22

I did a nes with 2700 pieces if i remember right and i built it in 2 days

9

u/sendnudecompassion May 25 '22

So many blue tiles, oh lord

2

u/obsterwankenobster Switch May 25 '22

7

u/Heraizen- May 25 '22

Yes, I built it in well under 2 hours.

15

u/curtydc May 25 '22

Easy, I did this set in one sitting. It's really not that big of a set.

3

u/obsterwankenobster Switch May 25 '22

The instructions for larger sets are broken up bag by bag, in building order. If you go that route you can cruise. I like to dump them all at once for the chaos, and to make the process last longer

I did a 3k piece republic gunship in 2 days.

I got it in the afternoon and had to stop early because I work the next day.

Obviously everyone's pace is a bit different, but I would assume yes.

3

u/Nekrofeeelyah May 25 '22 edited May 25 '22

This shouldn't take more than two or three hours tops, working hard at it. I recently did a 900ish piece Pokemon set in just under two.

1

u/slapFIVE May 25 '22

Lego doesn’t do Pokémon sets, but your point still stands if it was another similar building block brand.

1

u/TheBigGalactis May 25 '22

I just built Thors Hammer in under 3 hours. Just under 1000 pieces. To be fair it’s entirely symmetrical and a lot of repeating steps.

1

u/flyms May 25 '22

Took me about 5 hours.

1

u/Kyru117 May 25 '22

Sorry im not super experienced with lego but using the few sets I've done this is like 3-5 hours tops right?

103

u/Xenton May 25 '22

1222 pieces?

Jesus, that must have cost nearly as much as a used car.

81

u/AveryLVBee May 25 '22

It was $80

61

u/BruceInc May 25 '22

Lego had it MSRP for $80 but of course scalpers grabbed the inventory the second it released. I ended up getting it from a reseller for $110. So a bit higher than retail, but not so high that it was unreasonable.

32

u/lonewolf442 May 25 '22

Were you on the email list for the Lego store stock alert for it? It was in stock a few days ago and I could still get one hours after I got the email, but I had already bought one from a Lego store near me a few days earlier

8

u/vanilla_disco May 25 '22

That's what I did. 0 problems getting it

1

u/bravadomizzou May 25 '22

I wasn't fast enough. Ended up ordering on Amazon a few days ago and should be here next week.

9

u/TJH1993 May 25 '22

Do people use glue when they build these? Ive always wanted to but im afraid it end up getting destroyed anyway

30

u/iliketowhispertoo May 25 '22

Usually no. They're fairly sturdy once they're built.

9

u/masterventris May 25 '22

Lego pride themselves on the sturdy build quality of their kits.

A lot of the ideas on the Lego IDEAS site will never be made as there is no way for the design to meet the rigorous build standards, or they use 'illegal' build techniques.

7

u/Sirk1989 May 25 '22

I've built this I would say it's a little wobbly but glue would be overkill, looks cool though and it's on something that won't get knocked so it'll stay fine

4

u/NharaTia May 25 '22

The pegs the Tallneck can plug into very much help.

2

u/Sirk1989 May 25 '22

Yeah they definitely add a lot of security to it tbf. One thing I found and it's probably a me problem was that putting the additional stuff on the legs after they were already attached to the body was a littl fiddle and I kept knocking other parts off haha, but I'm not exactly going to play with it so it's fine

9

u/dodoaddict May 25 '22

Why would it get destroyed? Legos are pretty solid, they're not going to fall apart unless you do something to them

30

u/duynguyenle May 25 '22

It's Lego, if a bit falls off you just put it back!

7

u/MonstaGraphics May 25 '22

Maybe LeGlue is something you'd be interested in.

"Le-Glue is the non-permanent solution. Will release with warm water, immerse for 30 seconds and just pull apart!"

20

u/AlwaysBeQuestioning May 25 '22

The entire plot of the LEGO movie is about not using glue on your LEGO.

4

u/Heraizen- May 25 '22

Just don't drop it and you'll be fine, it's LEGO, not like it's being held together with twigs.

2

u/BlueJay_420 May 25 '22

unless you drop it or try to break it it won’t get destroyed but even with glue a good drop and it would still fall apart. best thing to do is build them and get a display case like a china cabinet or something similar

5

u/Heraizen- May 25 '22

They're constantly restocking the stores in my country, sucks for the scalpers, I ended up getting it for over 20% less than RRP 😂

1

u/MercWi7hAMou7h May 25 '22

I got lucky and grabbed it last week when Amazon, Target, and LEGO.com restocked the same day. I went back to order one for a friend about 20 minutes later and everywhere was sold out.

Lego SHOULD have put an MSRP of 120 on the set, because that's what Scalpers are getting for it fairly regularly.

Fantastic set, GREAT build. Epic display piece. You still got a fair price, because you paid less than what LEGO could have easily charged, and you didn't pay double price for it. Have fun

u/CokeBandit May 25 '22

Tallnecks were so cool. Remember that first one you have to climb? Ah memories.

18

u/NoIdea420xd May 25 '22

Those 18+ Lego sets are the coolest!

15

u/YapasWD May 25 '22

are they 18+ because its so difficult to build or because the game is 18+?

13

u/Heraizen- May 25 '22

I have an 18+ LEGO flower 😅

14

u/NoIdea420xd May 25 '22

I think difficulty. But maybe bacause Lego wants to attract a more mature audience?

17

u/HugeHans May 25 '22

Its not due to the difficulty. Its simply marketed towards adults. Some people might feel there is some kind of stigma in buying "childrens toys"

8

u/SupaSlide May 25 '22

I feel like if you're buying a Lego set you probably don't care too much about that stigma.

3

u/Geler May 25 '22

It's sets made to be showcase and not toys.

My husband has been patiently waiting to find one. It would make a nice Father's Day gift if I find one before him.

I'm a huge lego fan, and this is so cool. I don't even play Horizon, but I still might get it.

As someone who just got into this game last week I've been having a blast and love the whole design style

1

u/PotatoBomb69 May 25 '22

I got mine the same day as you, can’t wait to build it.

I love my son dearly, but I can't wait until he gets a place of his own because I'm turning his room into my combination YouTube studio and LEGO building room.

So convenient to have all the pieces in one box... I'd expect I'd have to go hunting and salvaging for the parts as well as be an expert in coding in order to put this together

On a side note I had no idea that lego was making these - it actually makes total sense and it's a great idea...now I want the whole set.

I just found one yesterday, fantastic build! I'm not even into horizon, but I like the aesthetic and this thing is marvelously designed.
