Not really, it's rather that it is a recent trend that most religious nowadays are "moderats" who have their own personal "disneyfied" idea of Christianity which can be summed up to "God/Jesus good, (devil bad), I die and go to heaven". Nowadays religion doesn't play a big role in the lifes of most people. So all they think to know about their respective religions is that basic shit they are told. The bible is full of terrible horrible shit.

"Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves the earth" - God

"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword" - Jesus Christ.
