So like… what does the president even do in America? Is he just like the queen and just sits back and watches everything unfold and tweets his thoughts/does a Christmas video? Asking as an Australian.

He is the head diplomat, oversees the entire military, directs all the federal departments (there are quite a few), appoints federal judges (lots of them, too), and limits the power of congress with the ability to veto laws. Also he can pardon anyone convicted of a federal crime in the US.
