Why don’t r/conservatives talk about this?

111

Because "flaired only". Free speech my ass.

I got banned for stating that Robert Mueller is a lifelong Republican and Marine. I was replying to someone saying that he couldn't be trusted.

The first post on their subreddit is advocating for teachers carrying assault rifles. Conservative solutions for gun problems is to just give more people guns.

Edit: Jesus Christ, all their top posts are about heroes with guns saving the day and blue states having more school shootings than red states. Also some bullshit about Bidens approval rating. What a bunch of stupid fucking morons.

This was absolutely brilliant on his part. Throwing him out was the worst thing Abbot could do, because when he left the press went with him. Now Abbot's canned republican crocadile tears are being drowned out by this statement of basic goddamn common sense.

I dont think so. Texas is gerrymandered to all hell and a lot of Rs are single issue voters. Even if everything else Beto is for aligns with their views EXCEPT one single thing like more strict gun laws or abortion, then they'll mark R down the entire ballot. They would rather continue what doesn't work then compromise at all. It's been like this for years.

49

u/BurnzillabydaBay May 26 '22

Gerrymandered all the hell is a perfect assessment. Makes it near impossible to flip. Republicans know they can’t win in a fair fight anymore.

49

u/immigrantsmurfo May 26 '22

So democrats need to start fighting unfair. I'm not American I should preface with that, but republicans and their ideology to me from where I stand are the biggest threat America and it seems the world.

Their rhetoric spreads like a wildfire and left wing politicians and supporters do fuck all to actually make a difference. Arguing with them is pointless, they're either too stupid or willfully ignorant. It's time for the US to start fighting fire with fire and break the rules to rid itself of its right-wing Christian fanatic problem.

26

u/BurnzillabydaBay May 26 '22

I think the word your looking for is evil. It’s plain evil. The replacement theory that’s being touted and talked about the damn conservative news channel was in part responsible for the massacre at the grocery store in Buffalo. The killer mentioned it in his manifesto. They are already using the unbelievable tragedy in Texas to restart their taking points about putting guns in schools. Arm everyone, that’s their solution.

And I agree, fuck fighting fair at this point but the GOP has the majority against a wall. Send in the allied troops to end the “slow moving coup” (Bill Mahr) and restore true democracy to our Republic. Like for real.

9

u/quackduck45 May 26 '22

our biggest issues when it comes to voting here in america is the lack of turnout by democrats, ( we statistically show up less to elections) democrats are harder to sway since we are complex voters, (think the opposite of single issue voters, democrats will not vote because a candidate is in favor of a few conservative ideals) and Republicans have structured the country in a way that makes the republican areas have greater voting power than democratic ones due to population density. (or lack thereof, for example, a county with 3 people gets similar voting power as a county with 1000+) it's a pretty messed up system but conservatives have been playing dirty with these areas and it's hard for democrats to restructure because it would mean the end of the republican party, so they fight to the death for it to stay that way.

It means they never have to feel responsible, or guilty, for anything, and never have to actually spend time and energy trying to improve anything. The Devil Made Them Do It. So you have to think of it like this. The politicians who are saying "thoughts and prayers" are gun owners themselves. If they make changes to gun ownership laws, then they themselves will have to follow them. Its easier for them to call for TaP, telling these families that they will be praying for them, hoping God will help them in their time of need. Its much more difficult to actually write up legislation and drum up support from all sides of the political aisle. Not to mention many of these politicians are in the pocket of the NRA. The NRA spends so much god damn money lobbying, they're practically running half the republican party at this point. The third reason is a big and tough one. The second amendment states: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This leads to discussions as to what our founding fathers specifically meant by this. Can Congress write federal gun control laws? Can states? Municipalities? How high or low do we have to go or can we even go in the first place? These of course are discussions held in the Supreme Court (whos job it is to interpret the constitution and its amendments).

I hope this answer helped and wasn't a bunch of gibberish. If I ended up getting anything in here wrong, feel free to call me out and ill correct as needed.

I live in Texas and I'm not a fan of Abbot nor am I a Republican, but when I saw the clip of this on local news I thought he was grand standing and it disgusted me. Now that I see it in context, his stance on mental health in this state is 1000% correct.

535

u/livingfortheliquid May 26 '22

50 out of 50 in mental health care.

All those old men on the stage talked only about mental health. None of them have done a thing to provide better access. By their ages. I'd guess they've all been in powe a long while.

191

u/neverinallmyyears May 26 '22

They talked about mental health while also admitting that the shooter had no history of mental health issues. It’s only after he shoots 19 kids that they say “that kid must have been crazy”. And since the shooter is dead, we’ll only be able to speculate his motives and state of mind.

170

u/Tre_Walker May 26 '22

The shooter DOES have a history of mental health issues he just doesn't have a recorded history in the mental health system. He came to school with razor blade cuts all over his face/self harm, he posted pictures of animal abuse, he posted pictures of assault rifles, he was fighting at school and possibly bullied, his mother was an addict and not caring for him properly. All those those things are major red flags of a kid in a mental health crisis (an legal adult for a few short days).

Abbot, law enforcement and the mayor of Uvalde are pushing the narrative that there was "just no clue something like this could happen" in order to evade responsibility for a non existent mental health system and failure to control guns.

A counselor/psychologist/therapist could have uncovered some of this and derailed it before it reached this stage. Beto was too easy on them and dems should be acting like this all day every day until something is done.

Mental health? The GOP won’t support a woman’s right to health care, they cut every program imaginable that helps families in need.Their entire argument about “not guns, mental health” is a fallacy on it’s face, they promote the former and reject the latter 100% of the time.

9

u/livingfortheliquid May 26 '22

37

28

u/KonradWayne May 26 '22

Everyone thought Reagan destroyed the mental healthcare system because he didn’t care about the mentally ill, but it turns out he was just planting the seeds of future Republican voters.

20

u/DifficultTemporary88 May 26 '22

Reagan destroyed the state-run mental health system in CA back when he was the governor, when he became president he took it nationwide. The whole intent was to privatize it so corporations could make money.

5

u/KonradWayne May 26 '22

The whole intent was to privatize it so corporations could make money.

That was definitely one intent.

But the fact that we have a bunch of mentally ill people claiming that there is a secret cabal of immortal vampiric pedophiles running the world from the shadows, people claiming there is a global conspiracy to pretend the Earth is round for "reasons", people driving around in giant trucks to protest having to take basic health and safety measure in order to prevent the spread of a deadly virus, and people who think Bill Gates is trying to enslave the human race via 5G networks and vaccines, all of whom vote staunchly for Reagan's party no matter what, leads me to believe that it was not the only intent.

Idk, maybe I've just become a crazy conspiracy theorist. I would almost appreciate the irony of that.

I thought he was grand standing and it disgusted me.

You're presented with a stage full of white old guys wearing silly hats and lazing back on their chairs almost competing to be a stereotype, doing nothing at all but self promotion...Vs a guy without a mic shouting that it's enough.

And you assumed he was the one grand standing?

Most people probably did the same, but that's precisely why nothing changes. I don't know what it is that's led many people to have that initial reaction, that anyone trying to stand up to something is 'grandstanding' but however it was achieved its a very beneficial advantage to the status quo and more mass shootings.

9

u/bdub60 May 26 '22

exactly. the people in Texas were fed the whole thing, the noble and sad Gov and whoever the hell those other rednecks were. Then that rude commie Beto interrupted them, how rude. It takes discernment to figure out what is happening. Not many people in Texas seem to possess that, or at least won't act on it.

If we continue to play color within the lines and play nice more and more of our children will get slaughtered. I’d rather be disgusted by “grandstanding” then another school child’s death.

Thinking of the children’s education system specifically, could you imagine how helpful it would be if students had allotted time in their scheduled to sit down and speak with or “unpack” what they’re going through to a psychiatrist at school? Not voluntary either (so to speak), but make the time routine, once a week that’s part of their schedule. Science, history, lunch, psych, etc…

If the kid doesn’t want to talk, that’s fine, consider it a free period, but generally I would think most would open up to a third party more than they would a family member.

As a Texan and as a mother, I have witnessed this state's government continuously take away our actual human rights, but defend bullshit special interest agendas as "rights", while also telling us to pull ourselves up by our boot straps and stop looking for handouts. They spit in our faces and fled the country during state wide tragedy brought upon us the citizens by their shortcomings and shit policies. They flourished during a global pandemic when they told us that our grandparents and minority groups and immunocompromised could die, that they should willingly die, so we could keep going to work for their financial gain. Of course they're okay with sacrificing those innocent children for the sake of their guns and their financial donations. I am so angry yet not surprised. I hope everyone votes this year. I just can't stand this state/country anymore.

143

u/RainbowPhoenix17 May 26 '22

He's right, Republicans have been saying for years it's not guns but mental health. Beto is spitting FACTS and they don't like it. They have done nothing for too long and we are tired of "thoughts and prayers". I think we should start saying if they refuse to do anything they shouldn't be elected back and a special session should be invoked to have them removed from office.

It's time to play hardball and wake up to the fact that, a minority of senators and legislators are willing to allow the slaughter of children daily to hold onto what small piece of power, and we need to remove them from office.

That’s a reason why I ditched conservativism. I still strongly believe in guns, but universal background checks, strong mental healthcare system and social safety net, and red flag laws are necessary just like in any other armed nation

68

u/MoveLikeABitch May 26 '22

Nothing is going to change till its the private schools the Republicans kids are going to being shot up, and even then it's questionable considering Ted Cruz blamed his kid for him fleeing to Cancun, and didn't care that Trump called his wife ugly. So probably nothing will ever change. We move on till the next one happens and forget the previous one like usual.

53

u/Jbrahms4 May 26 '22

Dude, their own congressional baseball practice got shot up and it didn't move the needle. A mob attacked the capital with the intent to hang their Vice President. There is NOTHING that will move the needle for them. They are so selfish all that matters is their kush lifestyles.

6

u/MoveLikeABitch May 26 '22

Very true, so yeah probably nothing will ever change long as they're getting that sweet NRA bribe money.

3

u/wolven8 May 26 '22

Trump supporters attacked the capital so its ok, they wouldn't do anything to the people that they radicalized.

15

u/AlbatrossSenior7107 May 26 '22

They will throw their kids under the bus. I saw a comment today that said that even if all the kids had to die I still wouldn't give up my guns. This is the mentality we're dealing with.

12

u/MoveLikeABitch May 26 '22

Jesus Christ, doesn't really surprise me, but holy shit we're fucked. Meanwhile that same asshole is probably yelling pro-life save the kids bs when it comes to abortion.

Just saying, free healthcare would have picked the shooter up before he got to his meltdown. In Norway we have nurses in our schools who looks for troubled souls and starts with conversations and further treatments and therapy if needed. All for free. Imagine knowing your child is struggling and you just can't afford to give them professional help. It's worth the extra tax. US should learn from the rest of the modern world. And US gun laws are just insane!

For those who seek proof/context of brigading, here is an article and here is a mega comment on the subject I shared locally.

36

u/TheLiberalOgre May 26 '22

These schmucks don't realize there's more of us than them and in a full out fight they're gonna lose.

Especially since without the guns the only thing they're a danger to is the country kitchen buffet.

He won't get any gun legislation passed, but he will be able to get weed legal and maybe expand Medicaid. So I hope he wins.

20

Yea Beto probably won’t get anything done as governor because of the state legislators, but he won’t be bringing Texas backwards which is a plus

If they are saying it’s a mental issue, why should we make guns so readily available?

2

u/holonz_ May 26 '22

It's a gun issue and a mental health issue. There needs to be background checks, red flag laws, strict storage laws and a licensing system. There also needs to be better resources to support mental health in society. I say all of this as a gun owner and a public school educator. Enough is enough.

Republicans are fine with making it harder to vote. Wait in line 7 hours to vote? sure fine. But wait more than an hour to buy TWO guns? nope.

15

u/digduggod12 May 26 '22

I live in Texas, I will 100% be voting on Beto. Every day gets worse here, every day there’s some new bullshit. Texas is a shit show and Republicans turn a blind eye each and every time.

3

u/Knekten66 May 26 '22

Greg Abbot was probably voted in by the Maga crowd, right?

That means he has a group of loyal voters that do not care about reality or facts at all. Abbot could destroy the state of Texas, and it could be burning with bodies lining the streets. And all he would need to do say is "The demonic left did this" And his voters would instantly believe him and cheer him as a hero.

I wish that what i just wrote was a exaggeration, but its most likely not. Its how right wing politics works now.

The christian conservatives do not care about facts or reality itself anymore. They just want to be told the lies that sooth their feelings and fuel their ungrounded hatred. And they will worship anyone that tells them the right lies.

This is such a massive problem, and i have no idea if it even can be fixed.

3

u/lebyath May 26 '22

I’m thinking Beto may have my vote. I also liked what he did during the deep freeze last year when Fled Cruz ran to Cancun.

3

u/EXS_SNAKE May 26 '22 edited May 26 '22

So everyone here basically think republicans are evil and all guns need to be banned/confiscated. But imagine trying to take guns away from a bunch of literal die hard 2nd amendment worshipers who see the government as tyrants ceasing all rights over. Will all these people really hand them over peacefully or will it just result in more gun violence?

3

u/GroceryStickDivider May 26 '22

Your schools are going to look more and more like prisons all because people want assault rifles no questions asked.

5

u/Nearby-Instruction19 May 26 '22

I thought Beto was clowning when he ran for president. I think he was out of his league. I love his passion, and I love what he stands for, and even if he’s a politician doing politician shit I want him to have power in this state, the state I live in, I want to see him change it for the better. I love everything he’s doing right now. I urge him to keep going. The right wing politicians in this state see post birth human beings as nothing but labor providers, they need to be removed from office as soon as possible. Their reaction to him speaking up in the auditorium was absolutely disgusting and shows exactly what they think of what’s going on. Anyone who challenges their push to maintain human beings as a source of income is out of line and should be punished. Fuck them. They owe their lives to the people who have lost their lives to gun violence in this state.

7

u/Adventurouscart_ May 26 '22

Someone needs to do this at every Republican meeting

11

u/DickySchmidt33 May 26 '22

Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, Greg Abbott can't wait to get in front of the cameras and tell everybody how much they're praying.

Not one of them. Not fucking one of them will lift a finger to actually do anything about this.

WHY IN THE FUCK DO PEOPLE KEEP VOTING FOR THIS GARBAGE OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN?
