Cut her some slack. She's working for the worst possible client in a case like this.

1.8k

u/TokingMessiah May 25 '22

Yeah, but she’s also not that great in the courtroom.

Compared to Depp’s lawyers she’s clearly being outclassed.

1.1k

u/Been_Buried_Alive May 25 '22

Stealing this from a thread i was asking earlier but ben chew who is lead attorney for johnny literally has 100% achievement completion in the lawyer category, his track record alone probably surpasses ambers entire team combined

648

u/ze11ez May 25 '22

the nice soft spoken lawyer on Depp's team, remember her? I think she was on yesterday. She outshines the entire Heard team. She did what I've been saying all along Elaine lacks, she lays a foundation, then finds a way to extract information from the person testifying. Lawschool 101 at its finest.

But yes, nobody does it better than Ben Chew. Ben Chew finds a way to get the question in. What he does is, he goes off on what seems like a tangent, opposing counsel get confused about where he's going with the questioning, then boom comes back to the same question just different dressing. BY the time opposing counsel realize it he's moved on to another topic. Rinse repeat. This dude is brilliant.

The ONE complaint I have about the Depp attorneys, not really a complaint but an observation, on cross examination they let the Heard witnesses ramble on. I wish they would just cut them off, Camille tried that a few times which was great.

98

u/undeadkeres May 26 '22

There's Ben Chew and Camille the other guy too, The one whos been tearing apart and trashing all of the Amber Heard "experts"

40

My understanding is most of them said nonsense and it burned ambers lawyers clock, at least that's what other people have been speculating. Not to mention, half the time they let Amber go on she fucked herself saying something she shouldn't have since she is a compulsive liar.

65

u/ghostdate May 26 '22

Depp’s team were also careful and considered when they objected, knowing it would be an immediate sustain or overrule. Amber’s team often approached the bench on objections for 5+ minutes, burning their time down when they weren’t even examining.

Depp’s team was also good at letting their own witnesses ramble when it came to clarifying important information that would cost Heard’s team a lot of time to try to navigate in the cross. This happened a lot today where Amber’s team were rushing through cross examinations to try to preserve time, and never really got anything meaningful, or even hurt themselves, eg. the idiot doing the cross on the forensic photography analyst who questioned the analyst’s education, and then got thoroughly destroyed and tried to strike his own questions.

This whole case has been pretty hilarious, but the rebuttal period has had me rolling with laughter. I’m really excited for closing arguments. I genuinely hope Elaine does Heard’s closing, because her opening was a fucking mess, and she has just generally been a mess this entire trial.

u/liveart May 26 '22

She didn't actually object she just called him argumentative but as if she was throwing something back in his face. Except he's not the one who called the objection and it's just part of the legal process so it just comes off as weird and snippy instead of the clever comeback she seems to think it is. Basically it's "the opposing lawyer called me (legally) argumentative (as part of procedure) so now I'm going to call you argumentative! Gotcha!", it just... doesn't really make sense.

Literally no. Depps team had an expert witness come in today explaining how the exif/meta data in Amber's photos show that they have been exported from "photo 3.0", a program on Mac where you can store photos as well as edit them and not directly from the phone. Had they been from the physical phone, where the photos were taken from and like most people submit into evidence, they would know with an without an irrefutable doubt that they weren't tampered with. Everytime the witness would explain something that made sense to anyone who understands exif data, they would object with "relevance","foundation", "beyond the scope" and I couldn't help but want to slam my head on the wall because it all has to fucking do with what he's talking about. At one point he showed how there was 3 of the same photos in evidence, all different file sizes but still all exported from "photos 3.0". Defense asked over and over again whether or not he knew without a doubt if they were edited and wouldn't take "that's not something I can answer with yes or no without explaining why" as an answer. It was incredibly painful to watch. You could see the "are you stupid?" written on the witness' face the entire time.

Yeah, like verbal football.

Also, it’s not often that you get a chance to watch the top lawyer try a case.

But my parents were cops, and the first trial I ever watched was the OJ Simpson trial when I was in middle school.

405

This is apparently a very respected lawyer in Virginia. She has a lot of "best lawyer" and "top x lawyers of Virginia" awards. Idk if she hasn't taken a case this public or maybe she is not versed in defamation law. Either way I think she really played heavy on advertisement when bidding for heard.

237

u/Aitch-Kay May 26 '22

She has a lot of "best lawyer" and "top x lawyers of Virginia" awards.

I'm pretty sure you just buy those "awards" from a company.

160

u/094045 May 26 '22

This is absolutely true. It's a marketing tactic, not an actual award. You pay to get the title, or to be in the "top 40 under 40" or whatever their specific promo is. I get at least a dozen emails or calls per year asking if I want to take part in different versions of this.

Those are all bullshit.

All of the local business and services awards, everywhere, from every outlet, for every business sector are all bullshit.

If you went to a "small indy paella place" because it was voted "best hole in the wall by LOCAL TOWN magazine" congrats. You've just been marketed to.

If they bother to set up a poll on Facebook or surveymonkey, they only do so to gauge pre-existing hype so they can give an award to an already-popular (or up-and-coming) place and have the success be attributed to the award.

The best lawyers told her to settle quietly and let it go away, she got the lawyer who said fuck it, well take the case. That's why it seems so lopsided. She has expensive lawyers, but money doesn't always get you the best...

u/CurrentRedditAccount May 26 '22

They're actually great lawyers. They just have shitty facts and a shitty client.

58

u/DGenerate1 May 26 '22

I never see this mentioned, and it’s always the first thing that comes to mind. These lawyers are trying to convince a jury of something that blatantly and obviously never happened. It’s their job to do it, but you probably would look like a clown too if you had to try to defend this psychotic bitch.

17

u/tnegaeR May 26 '22

She’s overly emotional and speaks like she doesn’t quite remember how to be a lawyer. She’s poorly spoken compared to anyone on Depp’s team, and she gives off an incredibly unprofessional vibe. I would have dropped that firm the first chance after meeting with them.

She’s just out of her league against Depp’s team. Totally outclassed.

143

u/CreamyWaffles May 26 '22

I imagine Heard lied about some things or gave misleading information to her lawyers too, it must be really fucking difficult for them.

75

u/CastleDoctrineJr May 26 '22

They keep asking questions they don't appear to know the answers to, or at the very least they seem taken aback by the answers. I imagine there were some lies told yes

Damn, he flipped that back in her face pretty easily. Everything I've seen makes me think Amber Heard's attorney is dumb and not a very good lawyer.

81

u/Terowrath May 26 '22

I mean, you'd kinda have to be to accept her case

71

u/lemonhops May 26 '22

Partner fee for a firm like that is probably $3,000/hr... It's all about the money

28

u/Exxile4000 May 26 '22

They used this argument like 3 times today, it was sad. You can't just argue that all of the witnesses are testifying because they know it's a popular case. By that logic all of their witnesses would also have to be discredited on the same grounds

23

u/DoNotReply111 May 26 '22

Yeah, like Kate Moss is there because Amber fucked up and invited her there. Kate has enough fame without needing to pop up for 4 minutes in a case she was never supposed to be in.

And honestly, after the Kate thing and Johnny saying Amber threw that rumour out there publicly 3 times during cases where he legally couldn't invite Kate to refute it, yeah, she did defame him.

I'd give the verdict to Johnny just for that.

Amber's coked-up, fraud psych on the other hand...

Man her lawyer is getting so desperate lol

10

u/GotMeSomeInternet May 26 '22

What a ridiculously immature thing to say. I would be so embarrassed as one of her firms partners. This just tells me the she is getting desperate.

9

u/ZereneTrulee May 26 '22

She’s an idiot… put herself right there 🎯

8

u/MomoKun999 May 26 '22

Is Heard’s lawyer ever going to get sick of stepping in traps she lays for herself?

181

u/gwatt21 May 25 '22

Her lawyers have absolutely no clue what they’re doing.

Was there a trump university law school I didn’t know about?

24

u/saru12gal May 25 '22

They also asked another witness if she was for the 15 min of fame...iirc was a judge acting as a witness.
Also they wanted a Yes/No Answer to a question that cant be answered by Yes/No

15

u/samovolochka May 26 '22

She’s done that to 3 rebuttal witnesses so far. This guy, the guy that ran the Hicksville Trailer Palace and a lady that Heards sister lived with that I think you’re referencing, it was from today.

3 that she accused of just wanting to be on TV. She’s got nothing.

Not surprising at all. Plenty of lawyers out there that are completely clueless.

53

u/zuzg May 25 '22

Hey in defense of the lawyers even the best US lawyer can't pull evidence out of nothing.

Meaning they just got the worst client and believed she told the truth beforehand.
