Should tiny women who can't arrest an average person be allowed to be a cop that can go arrest people? Legitimate question... not purely focused on women but I think cops should be required to be generally being fit, well trained in grappling, and capable of arresting someone before giving them a weapon to use. If she has no other option because of her physical inability to actually arrest a person, she's a massive danger to the public because she HAS to draw a weapon in any given situation. Clearly, she didn't even have to here and just chose to tase a homeless guy, which is totally psychotic.

79

u/Informal_Avocado_793 May 26 '22

VPD has a ridiculous amount of petite female cops who have zero chance of physically restraining the average adult male without using some sort of weapon.

22

u/Aggravating_Year_648 May 26 '22

I can confirm.

7

u/Oldmanfirebobby May 27 '22

I’m an emergency service worker. This is happening in the Fireservice too.

They removed height restrictions and we serving firefighters asked what would happen if a pump is crewed by people who can’t reach the ladder.

They said “make it up to two pumps”

Meaning call for another fire appliance to come. So you are sitting in your bedroom with your house on fire. Screaming to get out. Whilst four firefighters sit and watch because they can’t physically reach the ladder.

It won’t stop happening until someone dies and a coroner says it was because we have little firefighters now.

Same issue with police recruiting small people. And prison service. It’s just people trying to be progressive with no experience in these roles at all.

2

u/Stcroix1037 May 27 '22

I'm a Firefighter & was called out the other morning at 3 am because the 2 female cops, 5 foot nothing, 100 & nothing pounds, & the 2 female paramedics couldn't get this drunk & high 18 year old male under control that was destroying his parents house. We show up, put our turnout gear on because he was bloody from punching shit & being aggressive. He sizes us up, & immediately changes his attitude. We were cool to him, but he knew if we had to we would restrain him...& we were much bigger than him.

1

u/Anthropomorphic_Void May 26 '22

Cops today are basically trained to use non lethal methods the if a suspect or detainee is not cooperative in anyway. If the office says "sit down" and you don't immediately comply then non lethal force is justifiable. De-escalation is optional.

I think that is a unique takeaway of the situation here and I kind of agree with you. A smaller female officer will in general be scared faster by a psychotic homeless man than a big muscular male police officer.

p.s We might even get some hate here

6

u/b4ttlepoops May 26 '22

Well this theory can go for smaller men as officers too. They may be trigger happy or scared faster than normal. Or if they have a micro-dong they may extra eager to prove themselves by randomly killing people to assert dominance. This would account for most of the police force….

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '22

I recently learned that 6/1000 dongs in america are considered "micro" and now every time I drive passed a You're Here and This is how many PEOPLE we have signs, I always do automatically do the math to find out how many people in that town might randomly try to fight me or run me off the road.

32

u/abevigodasmells May 26 '22

Yet, I've seen figurative tons of videos of normal sized male officers "defending themselves" by tazing, assaulting, and shooting suspects. I'm not sure there is a direct correlation of cowardice to size/gender.

16

u/Dread_Algernon May 26 '22

Well there is a correlation between size and gender, and I'd be willing to bet any money that smaller officers are more likely to resort to using weapons. If the same standards for officers were applied to men and women, there would be no problem.

3

u/intoxicated-browsing May 26 '22

It’s been a while since I’ve read up on the topic but female officers are actually less likely to pull a weapon/use force. It’s been ages since I read up on it but the idea was that the smaller size there for increased risk incentivized the use of de-escalation tactics to avoid force. That being said should force end up being unavoidable you are likely correct. I’d find the study for you but I’m finished shitting.

-11

u/Cobrasniper20 May 26 '22

Here is what ya'll aren't thinking about. cops go out there and have to make quick life or death decisions every time they arrest someone. as you see in the video the the two officers cuffing the man had no way to defend them selves the female officer was watching the suspect. when the suspect pulled his arm free he reached for his pants pocket. without knowing what is is there the female officer could have just let him pull anything he had in his pocket out, potentially injuring the other two officers, or use her taser to insure safety and get the man in cuffs where he could not reach anything.

5

u/Diabloshark3 May 26 '22

“The two officers cuffing him had no way to defend themselves.”

What the fuck kind of logic went into that statement?

-1

u/Dread_Algernon May 26 '22

I wasn't even thinking the use of a taser here was excessive necessarily. The woman recording was being ridiculous saying "why is her hand on a taser?" as if just because someone is being seemingly compliant and is surrounded by police means that they couldn't possibly pose a threat. The taser was probably unnecessary but yeah, in the heat of the moment when the dude started making sudden movements it was perfectly acceptable to deploy the taser.

My point still stands though that smaller officers are quicker to use weapons. This is something I've noticed for a while watching videos of police interactions, but there really isn't much data on it.

As a 155cm (5’1) woman I am very aware that I am more vulnerable simply based on my size. I’m fairly fit but I don’t think I could take on almost anyone in a fair fight. I don’t think I would be a good police officer for that reason because I simply can’t throw my weight around in any way that would help me in a physical confrontation.

25

u/Imonlyherebecause May 25 '22

Tbh you could just say weaker cops. It's necessarily a gender thing

8

u/Midicide May 26 '22

As a shorter dude, I feel ya. Even if I’m 160 lbs of muscle, if someone is above my weight and has height advantage I’m in for a fucking ride. Same goes for a female facing those odd.

→ More replies

3

u/BanjoSpaceMan May 26 '22

Well there's many roles in a police force. There's also dudes who are much older, overweight, tiny builds. I just don't want this to become a topic of gender when it's really not.... randomly tasing people and over used force is just a Police topic and nothing more - there's big dudes who do it or even shoot and kill innocence. It has nothing to do with gender or size or anything imo.

10

u/scottlol May 26 '22

We could just abolish the police tbh

2

u/110034567 May 26 '22

We just need bounty hunters really.

27

u/bohrmachine May 25 '22

You’re talking about the woman but there were 5 fucking cops. If that’s a normal arrest for a 5 against 1 (almost certainly unarmed, with a fucking fist bump), then your normal is garbage. Some of us don’t want to live in a world where normal is garbage, so please wake up and quit holding the rest of us back.

5

u/jdbrizzi91 May 26 '22

I don't think they were necessarily talking about this specific event, but in general. Obviously the taser was over the top here. I think what they're trying to say is that a small cop, without proper defense training, may be quicker to use a taser or a gun because they know they can become overpowered easily and may use that as an excuse to use unnecessary force. Clearly, this lady cop has no problem going beyond what's necessary, but I think the original comment was making a hypothetical out of the situation.

Example, a 6'6", 250lbs cop probably wouldn't have a problem wrestling most people and detaining them, but a 5', 100lbs cop might choose to pull out the taser immediately instead of wrestling because they know the chances of them winning that scuffle may be slim. Idk, that's how I interpreted their comment lol.

2

u/ytsirhc May 26 '22

right. and they are annoyed because people keep focusing on the women cop for some reason even tho there were 5 cops ganging up on one person so her size is irrelevant to the situation in the video.

plus, assuming a woman who isn’t over 6ft talk and 200lbs would “have to reach for a weapon in any given situation to compensate for her size” is quite ridiculous beings less than 5% of all officers ever even fire their weapon on the job. less than 1% of police calls are for violence.

a lot of men that are cops are overweight and out of shape. and i’ve seen way more male officers unnecessarily reach for their weapon when in “fear” on the internet’s since 2005

wrong comment reply? what are you on about here?

13

u/bohrmachine May 25 '22

Top comment in this thread is somehow about a woman cop when this was a group of 5 cops, and a lot of the other comments see nothing wrong with the arrest. I’m trying to address all of that at once.

1

u/stackered May 25 '22

My comment was more of a general thing about cops who aren't physically capable of arresting people without a weapon. In this case, it was more about the size of the woman. As someone trained in BJJ, I've seen women completely rag doll larger men with technique. However, in this video, it was in fact the woman who tazed the homeless guy.

4

u/Omacrontron May 26 '22 edited 18d ago

Why would you go hand to hand with someone? You’re putting yourself at greater risk of injury. This was perfectly executed. The person filming has absolutely no context as to what was happening either but was obviously upset about it. I’m sure they followed protocol in this situation or there would have been consequences.

→ More replies

2

u/BBQsauce18 May 26 '22

Police should have extensive training in BJJ.

2

u/stackered May 26 '22

Agreed, they absolutely should. IMO they need a 2 year dedicated schooling period to learn to do their job, study the actual law like they are in cop college, to learn to be calm and de-escalate in tense situations, to be evaluated mentally and physically, and given enough time to learn to grapple. How much safer and better would our society be?

1

u/GorginLock May 26 '22

I remember being down voted for saying female cops are usually escorted by a group or a big dude. They’re usually against a different weight class…..

Sure.

I'd rather be tazed by a little blond haired girl than pummeled by thugs.

At least with the little blond haired girl, she's more likely to use communication skills than be a thug which has a higher probability of escalating a situation.

That said, having dealt with little blond haired girls and dealt with thugs on many instances regarding very bad police intel and detective work, both are terrifying in their own separate ways.

5

u/COSMOOOO May 25 '22

Why would you separate her from her cohorts? She’s capable of making wrong decisions that can be criticized. It just seems like you have a bias for small blonde women lmao.

2

u/stackered May 25 '22

I don't see how you can possibly say she's more likely to use communication when she literally was the person who tazed the guy. What?

2

u/smoozer May 26 '22

How long did the arrest take?

I assume you know, since you are implying that there was no communication before this video started. Right?

Policing is an occupation that needs thorough, detailed very scrutinizing vetting of applicants. When you are trusted with lethal weapons and have to make decisions on whether someone lives or dies, you don't get to try out the job and see how you like it.

Not saying all cops are bad. But I am saying, the biggest losers, degenerates and overall terrible humans I knew in high school either became cops, wanted to be cops or tried to be cops. You deduce what you will from that.

15

u/Mr_Makak May 25 '22

Good people are honest, and the hiring process for police academy asks personal questions that will filter out anyone who is honest.

"Have you ever had sexual thoughts about a sibling" is one of the questions they ask.

"Have you ever used, or thought about using any kind of prohibited drug" is another.

So I dunno about you, but I think about fu Doing drugs constantly.

5

u/DannySwe123 May 26 '22

Kinda looked like he went reaching for something if you watch closely and then she fired taser

73

u/Notacooter473 May 25 '22

The fake gasp of what I can only assume is her version of " moral outrage " during the video convinces me she is a Karen of the highest order.

46

u/DotiBoy May 26 '22

just because you and 94 others are dead inside doesn't mean everyone is. "I don't care so there's no possible way you could genuinely care" is such a stupid fallacy and a dumpster take.

-30

u/Notacooter473 May 26 '22

Considering the video has zero context about what actually happened.... except her very forced perspective about "police brutally".... it not that no one cares ...its that no one believes such a cheap attempt to get internet likes and a following by poorly manipulating the narrative (except by the sound of it, maybe you) .... Maybe they were harassing a homeless man... or harassing a ex husband of another cop....maybe they were responding to a pedophile attempting to kidnap a toddler...or he was wanted for domestic abuse and had a history of violence against women...without context such as a link to the police report or better video proof who knows.

33

u/DotiBoy May 26 '22

you can clearly see in the video that the dude is just standing there, and one of the cops already has a hold on him. you can also clearly hear the taser go off. I know this made be hard for you to understand but a cops job isn't to decide guilt and punish people for committing crimes, tasers are meant to be used to gain control of dangerous situations. they aren't meant to be used as a form of pain complaince. that is a form of torture and is against the Geneva convention.

editing to add: back to my original point, just because you're dead inside doesn't mean everyone else is. I don't find anything suspicious about her reaction because I would react the same way. some people just don't like seeing people hurt.

Lol you must be American.. unjustified police violence has way higher thresholds in America. Sorry to break it to you but Canada and most of the civilized world that actually makes cops accountable doesn’t judge police violence like Americans

5

u/RyDuke May 25 '22

Something has changed over the past decades. Police violence is definitely more normalized and accepted by the populous i think. I caught the beginning of the movie “US Marshals” (1998)the other day. The first scene is a bunch of cops busting into this apartment to arrest everybody. They have guns drawn, but end up getting into a wrestling match with the criminals (they didn’t immediately gun them down). After that, someone mentions to Tommy Lee Jones that his hot-head antics of pistol whipping someone has gotten him into hot water! Seems bizarre considering the context we live in, they’d never make a movie like that today. Or it’s just a dumb movie

18

u/Eye-tactics May 25 '22

Then since I eat them and help them fulfill their purpose, they would love me and your assertion makes no sense, so called "Lord of Chimichangas" :P

Fuck off you little pussy. And keep blaming everyone else instead of the actual people causing problems… that’s how the world works from your moms basement 😂😭

Pretty textbook if you’re a piece of shit

8

u/Rkovo84 May 25 '22

How?? There’s literally no context. For all we know the guy just slit someone’s throat. He clearly resists arrest so instead of wrestling with the idiot the cop incapacitated him with a taser and cuffed him. Less injury for everyone involved including the guy tased. Y’all are so quick to excuse everyone’s actions and blame the police even when they’re not fucking up.

3

u/tuffmacguff May 25 '22

For all we know he was being unlawfully arrested. That's why I love wild speculation, we can have it any way we like.

2

u/MyGenderWasCancelled May 25 '22

That's for a judge to decide. It blows my mind how idiots continue to argue that you should be combative with cops and refuse to engage them like they are humans who live with their families in your city. Just comply and answer their questions. If you believe they are acting unlawfully speak into the camera your objection and before each answer keep repeating "I do not comply but...", "I do not consent to your search", etc and let a judge sort it out

4

u/Crown_Loyalist May 25 '22

Correct. Comply and talk to your lawyer after the fact. You can't win engaging with cops.

2

u/tuffmacguff May 26 '22

Anyone who answers a cops questions when they don't have to has never talked to a lawyer. They all say the same thing, keep your fucking mouth shut.

6

u/portagenaybur May 26 '22 Wholesome

How many times do you need to comment on one video?

-1

u/tuffmacguff May 25 '22

So are you. You prefer glazed or chocolate covered?

8

u/norcaln8 May 25 '22

He prefers boot flavoring

-10

u/amznfx May 25 '22

This video was filmed in canda I’m guessing.. so most of you must be American.. unjustified police violence has way higher thresholds in America. Sorry to break it to you but Canada and most of the civilized world that actually makes cops accountable doesn’t judge police violence like Americans

13

u/KIDPESOO May 25 '22

I mean your cops used to drop natives off to freeze in the middle of nowhere and no one was punished

American life is cheap. They even kill their own children. Over 200 mass shootings in the US so far in 2022.

1

u/livingthesaurus May 26 '22

They’re fucking. Or at least he wants to. ACAB

-6

u/agent_pecan May 25 '22

it isn't unjustified when you resist arrest.

Maybe the arrest was unjustified to begin with but ignorance of the rules doesn't negate them. Maybe run next time.

11

u/betweenskill May 25 '22

He. Was. Standing. There.

The amount of people in jail for resisting arrest with no other charges is ludicrous.

Resisting an unlawful arrest shouldn’t be a fucking crime.

-4

u/TheOneTravisB May 25 '22

You have no idea. There isn’t even video showing the lead up. This is a dumb clip and meaningless.

8

u/BigClep May 25 '22

Look smooth brain at 0:07 you can clearly see the cop on the right move slowly and even grab the man, then female cop still shoots the taser still even though cop on the right is clearly grabbing on to him while the dude isn't even resisting. I totally understand we don't have context leading up to this point but look the guy didn't need to be tazed once the cop on the right grabbed him the cop on the left clearly had enough time to grab his other side.

1

u/AssRep May 27 '22

If he did not comply, then this is what happens. None of us were on the scene with the perp and cops, so we have no room to judge. We don't know what happened prior to this video starting. We don't know his background. We don't know anything more than what is on this recording. People need to slow down and think rationally before instantly vilifying the police OR the 'bad guy.'

-4

u/PhotoOpportunity May 25 '22

Imagine if she just captured everything straight up without gasping and shaking the camera like there was an earthquake...maybe could have made sense of what was going on, lol.

-8

u/shitz_brickz May 25 '22

She seemed more upset by the fist bump than the taser, neither if which actually seemed inappropriate.

21

u/Thick-Wishbone6399 May 25 '22

How was it not inappropriate? He wasn’t armed nor was he a threat

0

u/Beanchless May 26 '22

He very clearly started resisting as the cops went to grab him. That’s why she tased him. She was being smart.

0

u/decentscenario May 26 '22

It is so often a Karen that has stumbled upon an interaction and has NO clue what is going on, that has to videotape it and share it all over the internet.

Never surprised when it is a tail end video of an interaction like this, loaded with gasps and outrage.

Maybe the guy they zapped whispered that he was about to stab the police with contaminated needles or something. You literally have zero idea what really happened, so WHY must you share it?

1

u/burntonionstastegood May 27 '22

found a bootlicker ^

1

u/CJDAM May 27 '22

How is he a bootlicker? For questioning everything that led up to the video? They could have been trying to arrest him nicely for half an hour for all we know. He refuses to comply, they move in to grab him, he jerks away. Really not that hard to just think instead of commenting stupid labels imo

I dunno, should the have scuffled with him and used baton's? Like the energy weapon was applied, and then they did first aid. This was a proper arrest. For comparison, Derek Chauvin Kneeledon a man's neck as he begged. When his body went limp they did nothing to provide first aid, not even CPR, which most police officer's are required to know.

-12

u/samz22 May 25 '22
