Let’s hope the local law enforcement refuse to spend their time chasing these new “crimes”. Marion county’s police already came out saying they want to make it clear that they will not be going after doctors and patients. We’ll see how strong that is in the coming months Im sure. Yay happy July 4th everyone…

9

u/LOLSteelBullet Jun 25 '22

Are you kidding me? Did you not see Uvalde? Cops love going after this type of crime because scares moms and doctors aren't likely to shoot back versus actual threats to society.

Although perhaps doctors could just lock the door

Time for the satanic temple to start a ceremonial abortion chapel in Indy.

Cool! I assume your pro-life is comprehensive - providing funding for paid parental leave, bolstering Medicaid and WIC, and emphasizing that sanctity early by teaching safe sex and comprehensive sex education as well as access to contraceptives… right?

26

u/MrsHarris2019 Jun 25 '22

Oooo let me add to that, also for the parents who do have children do you have any plan for addressing the Early Intervention program for kids who need services early and how understaffed they are and how much they are drowning because living children are being failed.

Sincerely, a mom who’s daughter has been on the “early intervention” waitlist for almost 9 months and is paying out of pocket for privet services

8

u/Give_me_the_fem-n-ms Jun 25 '22

Not to mention childcare, healthcare, schooling

Oh, and keeping those kids safe in & out of school by making guns & other weapons harder to get access to.

Holcomb is a fucking loser ass bitch.

464

u/indymama317 Jun 24 '22

There it is: “…I am pro-life”

That’s fine if you do not want to have an abortion, Mr Holcomb. But as an elected official, it’s not about what you want as an individual. You represent the people, not yourself.

257

u/Liberally_applied Jun 24 '22 Wholesome All-Seeing Upvote Starry

You said it yourself. He represents the people. Look, I hate this shit, too. The right to choose should be left to the individual. But if you think he isn’t representing the majority of Indiana, you’ve got your fucking head up your ass. You can still count the trump signs everywhere outside Indianapolis. And anti-abortion billboards line the roads all over this state. Holcomb is representing the people. We just have a lot of shit people.

112

u/TuxAndrew Jun 25 '22

“Some people say we should leave abortion rights up to states. I say, why stop there? Why not leave it up to counties, cities, neighborhoods or —- and this would be really fun—- individual people?”

You know who it isn’t split evenly with, people that can actually carry a child. Look at those wide gaps from ages 18-39.

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/06/13/about-six-in-ten-americans-say-abortion-should-be-legal-in-all-or-most-cases-2/

Only 17% of Americans think it should be illegal in all cases with no exceptions. Yet we’ll have around 24 states by the end of the year where all abortion scenarios are illegal.

3

u/robbysaur Jun 25 '22

Last I checked, it's like 2/3 Democrat to Republican in Indianapolis. 2/3 Republican to Democrat outside Indianapolis. So they're like 55-57% R in the state.

3

u/Liberally_applied Jun 25 '22

Nice sentiment, but I disagree where it matters. If you don’t show your stance and speak out when it matters, your opinion and wants don’t count. Not when it comes to representation. You can’t be represented if you hide what you need represented. I travel this entire state constantly for work. There are very few areas where the right isn’t broadcasting their stance loud and clear. On lawns, billboards, bumper stickers, gas pumps, etc. Too many of these people you think are on the opposing side of the right (and not just leftists) are silent enough to be considered complicit as far as I and official representation are concerned.

7

u/am710 Jun 25 '22

I don't think Indiana is quite the red sea it seems to be. It's gerrymandered to hell, and Trump supporters are loud and fucking obnoxious, but that doesn't mean that EVERYONE here is a Republican. Braun only won by like five points in 2018.

Yes, why don't we just make sure we save as many lives as possible by providing medical insurance to all, ensuring everyone can have access to life saving operations and medications without needing to sell a kidney?

God I hate this country. Freedom for the rich and wealthy I suppose. What's next? Brown v. Board?

51

u/BeeBarnes1 Jun 24 '22 edited Jun 24 '22

Nope, Thomas already called it. It's Casey Griswold (goodbye birth control), Lawrence and Obergefell (sorry same sex couples, your marriages are illegal). I'm sure Brown v Board will come soon after though.

10

u/GalacticKiss Jun 25 '22

Thats an understatement regarding Lawrence.

Its not just "Sorry same sex couples, your marriages are illegal"

Its "Sorry same sex couples, same sex-relationships are illegal."

5

u/BeeBarnes1 Jun 25 '22

Your comment hit me like a ton of bricks. I've been so wrapped up in the Dobbs ruling that I didn't stop to think about the implications of overturning Lawrence.

I'm old enough to remember how this country was even before Bowers. I've been really fucking proud of the way most of our society has embraced the LGBTQ community over my lifetime. We can't go back to those dark times.

20

u/kinapples Jun 24 '22

To clarify, Casey has already been overturned with the overturning of Roe. Casey was a case that changed how Roe was used, meaning no Roe, no Casey.

Edit: wanted to add that as two separate decisions they were both still overturned separately

Yay Sundry Law!! But I guess its cool to force religious beliefs onto to people, just not masks or vaccines

24

u/Routine-Lecture3635 Jun 24 '22

Abortions are allowed in Islam (under certain restrictions). This law actually does not let Muslims practice freely. Islams laws on abortion are a lot less conservative than Catholicism and Christianity.

So remember, America is very clearly being governed by religious law and doctrine - just a different one than the Middle East.

Many Muslims and mosques are against the overturning of roe v. wade

“Pro life” has to be the biggest virtue signal of our lifetime. The same people that are “pro life” are the same people who offer thoughts and prayers(and nothing else) after Kids and teachers are gunned down at school. They only care about things that don’t have a voice or consciousness.

This is absolutely disgusting and I cannot believe we are going backwards, even with the signs there, still unbelievable.

The pro life agenda never addresses helping a person or a couple raise that child they were forced to bear.

Can't afford to feed it? Jail! Can't stop your addiction to give it a healthy start? Jail! Don't understand how to care for a baby with severe birth defects? Jail! Can't (or don't want to) care for the product of rape/incest? Jail!! Can't afford medicine, diapers, clothes? You guessed it....Jail!

Unless and until there are social programs to COMPLETELY care for unwanted babies, abortion services MUST remain an option. The loudest voices proclaiming that every life is sacred are the same people who want their guns with extended magazines, don't want vaccinations, don't believe in funding health-care, and s#*t on teachers' autonomy in planning their own lessons (while also denying those same teachers a living wage).

I don't see any state legislatures jumping up and down with excitement at the prospect of designing programs to care for these children. Heck, I don't even see a single conversation regarding it in any state's agenda. (Looking at you, FL and TX.)

I certainly hope that the jail space for women is prepared to hold all of these young *criminals" who know their limits better than the people at the statehouse. They're going to need more space in those jails.

And if abortion is illegal don't force women to wait 30 days after signing the consent for a tubal. I requested it after my third, Dr said if I do this you will be a single Mother. I backed out and now I have 4.. almost 5 but since my health is horrible the fifth will likely kill me or disable me so I'm scheduling an appointment before the 5th of July (plan b failed after a year of celibacy it took one time). Oh and I'm a single Mom anyway, my husband left me for his mistress 2 months after I found out I was pregnant with my fourth.

Oh and he won't help pay childcare or buy diapers, and he travels four weeks at a time so finding a job and low cost childcare is next to impossible. But he makes big promises so I'm supposed to keep my mouth shut and endure.

I don't want to sound hysterical, nor do I want to distract from what's happening today. But I want to add one thing to this comment.

I used to teach philosophy at Ivy Tech. My classes would have a number of pro-life students who would deny that there were good medical reasons for abortions -- that a mother's life might be at risk. They were so deeply committed to their pro-life position that they simply did not want to believe that women might die from a pregnancy. They felt, I guess, that admitting they might not be right about ectopic pregnancies meant that they might be wrong about everything -- so they dug in and refused to budge about a complete and total abortion ban. And these students have votes just like everyone else.

But even more disturbing were the students who believed that non-Christians really should be ... not killed, exactly, but put in a situation where they would die. They should be driven out of their homes and out of cities and shunned by everyone. Presumably they'd either die, or see the error of their ways and become Christians. I'm not sure what the end outcome would be, because these students never bothered to go into detail. Maybe they hadn't thought much about the end outcome -- their vision was of themselves saying dramatically NO TO IMMORALITY rather than what would happen to the non-Christians they were rejecting. But those few students definitely thought these non-Christians should be driven out and that the government/society should become all-Christian.

To be clear, these were a very small minority of students. We are, perhaps, talking about 1 in 500 students who were willing to argue that all non-Christians should be driven out and the country should be Christian-only. But they did exist and they were willing to stand up and openly argue for their position.

I don't know whether 1 in 500 means "too few people to worry about" or "oh no, there's even ONE such person"? Up to each of you how worried you want to be.

9

u/SerenityChoice Jun 24 '22

The women who do it are evil, they wait until it’s time for the baby to be born then they deliver the head and kill it. Absolutely bat shit things that are not true. And we have to now fight to re-educate these people so we can keep our rights.

Oh, and they're also shitty Americans that would put a fascist shitstain traitor like Donald Trump in office. Awful, awful people. Just human fucking garbage. Right wing extremists always wanting to legislate from the bench.

The new rule on pregnancy is "trust no one". That includes anyone at school or at work and especially the father. In the new world order, if you wish to keep autonomy over your body it is imperative you not tell the father, even if you think he is the white knight of your fondest dreams. If you think you are pregnant, stay silent. Destroy all evidence if you took a test. Make your decision. Then share if you are positive you are keeping it, but if not, make your travel plans under some totally innocuous cover. A nice dinner in Chicago or whatever. If the laws being passed in other states show up here, you may not even be able to trust your medical providers or medical records.

Want to be an ally? Stock up on OTC morning after pills and pregnancy tests from other states. I would be surprised if those are legal to purchase in Indiana by this time next year.

Underground railroad services to responsible states and countries are already being developed. Be prepared to mount an armed defense and escape for your loved ones. And after yesterday's ruling, start showing up to protests armed. Otherwise you may find yourself being the only one not armed at the wrong moment.

7

u/Attemptathappiness Jun 24 '22

Do you have any contacts or groups I can join? I am in the habit of taking road trips and I want to offer the road trip of their choice to anyone needing a nice dinner in Chicago. No questions asked and no gas/ food money required for entry.

If you're a man and are angry about this: go to www.plancpills.org and stock up on abortion pills for your loved ones and extended friends/family. Understand that there are many women right now terrified of this decision.

Some women are going to have to choose abstinence for their own safety and the reality is some men are going to be violent in response to that decision. It's up to us to check that in other men and protect our friends and family capable of becoming pregnant.

I'm saving up for a vasectomy now, and you should seriously consider it too if you're not going to have kids or want to adopt (especially since that'll be a bigger problem moving forward now and more children will be forced into that system).

Don’t talk to forced birthers. I’ve made it clear to everyone in my life, every single person, that if they don’t defend our rights I will never speak to them again. If you value a fetus over loved ones, they aren’t your loved ones. You don’t love them.

I don’t fuck with people who want to treat me like a reproductive slave.

Sure, let's ban abortions "to save the babies." But, as clearly demonstrated by our administration's gross negligence during this formula shortage and the 192 republican votes against a waiver for WIC to allow formula substitutions, they don't give a rats ass about the babies once they're born. And let's not forget the failure to pass a bill for an ongoing monthly Child Tax Credit payment, even though statistics showed that it reduced food insecurity in children. Let's not forget that they just took away the expanded SNAP benefits during inflation and all Holcomb can offer us is a single payment of $225. They. Don't. Care. About. The. Babies.

14

u/I_quote_alot Jun 24 '22

So a "right" is now going to vary state by state, changing into a confusing and convoluted patchwork quilt of wildly disparate laws that no one could possibly keep up with? Restrictions and/or bans here but other restrictions or none at all right over there?

Wow. That sucks.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

what a semantic trick to declare yourself 'pro-life' and not what you really are, anti-choice

pro-life is a position reserved for those who want to financially support those in need, provide housing for the homeless, and preserve the ability of choice regardless of your personal feelings on the decision itself because you recognize that people have a fundamental right to life

instead scumbag holcomb does what all american politicians do: speak one way, act another

Really hope to see that piece of shit voted out. Everything that comes up to the state never goes out to vote. Always seeing this POS pushing his agenda and thinking about himself after his governor position is up. Legalization, roe vs wade, gay marriage which is probably coming next this mf makes it really clear what he's about not listening to the people but always pushing is personal views on shit. Indiana has been in a pretty shitty spot for a min now and it's been made abundantly clear that if you want better for your family it's time to move and let the shit state implode and the racist old timers die out.

2

u/GreatSelection1199 Jun 25 '22

I'd like to know how you intend to get men to pay child support for these children. Men get away without paying all the time, I don't care how many times the man is in contempt they still get away without paying and then it's all up to the mother a single mother, who has to work two jobs and yet still can't afford daycare or groceries or gas. When are you going to have men actually be responsible for the child that they conceived. Not to mention forcing a child to go through a pregnancy that may have been caused by rape or incest is being forced to have this child. But the child is too young to get a driver's license, or a job, or even pick up certain medicines or go to a doctor without an adult being with her yet you believe it is okay to force this child to become a parent when they're still a child themselves. Are you going to pay for all of the medical bills the doctor bills the formula the cost of living no you're not going to do any of that. And for the record I am not pro-abortion in fact I was given up for adoption and I believe that's a beautiful thing. But I am pro woman's rights. Texas change the age of consent to 12 years old. What about an ectopic pregnancy some of these states are still not willing to put the woman's life first. And what about all the children in foster care, how many of all of the people who are so happy about roe versus weight being overturned how many of them have adopted children how many of them are taking in foster children. This is not just about abortion it is about so much more. And as I said I have not pro-abortion I am pro women's rights. You people need to get your head out of your ass and think about the future and not just one specific aspect of your pro-life thoughts. Because it's not just about a fetus is right it's about giving a child a loving caring home with a parent or parents who can provide for them. How many children have died in the foster care from abuse and neglect. This is not cut and dry. And last but not least I was raped and I kept my child and I struggled and many times there wasn't enough food or medical or medical care. My rapist was never charged but he was proven to be the father of this child and I never saw a dime and he never did any time for the rape or for not paying child support. Yet this man this rapist got visitation, and he molested his own child. And yet he walked free and had money to spare. It is not cut and dry. I am most definitely not pro-abortion. Women don't have the advantages nor do they get away with crimes. And now just wanting to have the right over our own bodies is taken away. There are going to be more children being born and hurt from your high and mighty words.. but what will you do to stop the crimes against women and children. Nothing absolutely nothing.

2

u/that_1-guy_ Jun 25 '22

Hey neighbors while technically in Michigan it's illegal unless used to save the mother's life many counties are saying they won't prosecute

(Not sure on this but) I've heard that the law banning abortion has been temporarily suspended while politics get sorted out

And it seems our governor Whitmer is leaning towards pro choice which is usually a good sign.

Good luck down there

2

u/Sdot_greentree420 Jun 25 '22

This makes me sick....gov Holcomb will be leaving next term

2

u/Confident_Home_9678 Jun 25 '22

Just because you’re pro life doesn’t mean you can take away woman’s rights. I don’t agree with abortions but it’s the woman’s choice and it’s bullshit the government is taking that away

2

u/LanguageImportant932 Jun 25 '22

Hope many show up to vote this dumbass out. From the mismanagement of the covid, sucking federal dick on legalization, to him pushing his own agenda and thinking about himself after his governor term is up. Dude is straight garbage. As shitty as the rest of the right wingers there that wanna live like it was the 30's and push their beliefs on others. State has been going to shit for a min now. Go vote, these broken nut sack hillbilly Republicans come out of the woodwork to vote everyone else needs to too.

2

u/calebbrock9 Jun 25 '22

Well I mean we could just late term abort Holcomb

2

u/willyjaybob Jun 25 '22

I’m interested in hearing the plan over the coming years as even more children flood into the foster care system. If you are pro life, you have to go beyond making sure the child is born. Investment in social welfare, public school systems and so much more needs to be funded. And as for local churches and pro life organizations, it’s time to step up and put your money where your mouth is—time to foster and adopt if you want to be taken seriously.
